Sibilla
The word ‘Sibilla’ translates as ‘sibyl’ from the Italian language. In the mythical past narrated in the ancient Mediterranean literature Sibyl was the legendary prophetess that lived in hidden places and used to utter prophecies in ecstatic frenzy. No judgment, no teaching nor absolute truth was the aim or the subject of Sibyl’s revelations.

Sibilla’s Music
Sibilla’s music is powered by an emotionally compelling strength that develops into powerful and contemplative songs: profoundly touching melodies are complemented by sophisticated lyrics merged with clever and refined arrangements.

The study of gospel and jazz is at the heart of Sibilla’s music, which is reflected in the influence of two of her sources of inspirations: the ‘High priestess of Soul’ Nina Simone and the greatest blues singer, Bessie Smith.

At the same time, in Sibilla’s unconventional ‘dark soul’ we find the emotional intensity of Nick Cave, blended into a complexity of layering and harmonies occasionally resembling that of Rufus Wainwright. Along with elegant and emotional vocals influenced by Jeff Buckley’s works.

Sibilla incorporates into her own sound her love for alternative rock bands Radiohead and Arcade Fire, characterised by the use of a wide variety of instruments, while her intriguing experimental vein, reminds us of artists such as Diamanda Galas, Demetrio Stratos and Mike Patton.

A trademark of Sibilla’s sound is the fearless exploration of different genres that yet maintains a crisp and elegant style. The evocative melodies will seduce listeners and take them to a dream-like world; says Sibilla: “My music is my thoughts, but also those dreams and nightmares that everyone is capable of making up with their mind but are afraid to explore and express.”

Bio
Born in Milan, Italy, Sil Fiore, is a professionally trained singer and songwriter. Sil has been writing music, recording and performing since the age of 16.

A versatile musician, Sil has been invited to perform as vocalist with world-renowned artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Giorgio Gaslini and as guest with popular Italian jazz/Blue and Gospel bands and orchestras. All these experiences enriched her cultural and musical background and were channeled into the artist’s own project, Sibilla.

With the aim of forming a band that would embody the meaning of Sibilla and represent it at its best, in 2004 Sil moved to London, UK, where she has been performing at different venues becoming a popular gig among the local community .
