Biography

Sidh is a a young Italian-based Algerian musician that propose a beautiful and original repertoire inspired by the rhythms and melodies of raï music tradition. A journey through the sounds and athmospheres of the desert and Maghreb.
Something new is born in the Mediterranean music scene. A beautiful union between the colours of Africa and Europe, Italy and Maghreb. In this experimental fusion between gnawa traditional rhythms and Algerian ‘rai’ and those of European popular heritage, from jazz to ‘taranta’ everything is combined. But each sound maintains its genuine specificity.
SIDH has produced a new record “Sultana” in which he leads the folk repertoire down startling new paths, enriching it with a wealth of fascinating sounds of different origins that the artist has found in his own wanderings.

After his music studies in alto sax at the Conservatory in Algeri he found a group called “Harmonica”; with this group he started a new style called “raï-tergui” a mix of music from West Algeria, raï and music of the Tuareg people.
In January 2007 his first cd “Lila” has been released by the Italian label Dounya/Felmay and distributed all over the world.

Sidh is currently touring in the most important Italian world music Festivals and venues and have participated to several live performances for our National tv and radio.
