"Punk Me Up! review of "rendez-vous""

New review! Sid’ s "rendez-vous" cd review in PUNK ME UP!

SIDHARTA - Rendez-Vous
LABEL: Addictive Records
DATE DE LA CRITIQUE: 20 Janvier 2008
CRITIQUE ÉFFECTUÉE PAR: Julien
GENRE: ROCK, ALTERNATIF, PUNK

Sidharta
Rendez-Vous
Addictive

On their new 5-song CD Rendez-Vous, Sidharta puts out a straight-up rockin' sound: fuzzy power-chord guitars combine with medium-tempo punkish blast beats and front-and-center bass counterpoints to provided ample backing for understated vocal drawls and screams in a lo-fi, garage-esque setting. Although I've heard them described as "experimental" and "chaotic", they sound more firmly rooted in conservative old-school rock and punk, rather than anything progressive in a modern sense; and, although there's nothing earth-shatteringly groundbreaking here to satisfy my thirst for a progressive edge, Sidharta is much more enjoyable than a lot of over-brainy prog, thanks to their humanistic, flesh-and-bones simplicity. Quite simply, they rock. For sake of convenient comparison, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Pixies, Black Sabbath, Nirvana and Motorhead immediately come to mind. It's quite evident that Sidharta's been on tour recently , as they sound really together as a band. For all the hype surrounding the band concerning some sort of supposed brutal edge, I find their catchy simplicity rather un-disappointing, especially upon repeated listening - comforting, even. Here's to the old school!

"Sidharta interview"

Sidharta

"Sidharta from Montreal"

SIDHARTA
by Ginger Coyote

Sidharta is a three piece "punk noise" band hailing from Montreal Canada. I had no idea that the name Sidharta was Buddha's original name but with two d's rather than one. Herman Hesse also wrote a book called Siddharta and that Sidharta is a famous soap brand in Taiwan.

Sidharta formed as a band in Paris France in 2001. Ouraagan the vocalist/guitarist met the other band members . The group played venues in Europe along with recording two demo's. Their last demo made quite an impact with Indy Rock Radio and Web radio.

In 2003 the band decided they needed a change so they migrated to Montreal Canada. Upon moving to Montreal the band played such venues as Le Cafe Chaos, Cafe Campus, The Barfly, L'X, Le' Balare and many other clubs.

They toured Canada, Europe and recorded a six track EP produced by Harris Newman.

They made a video by Big Murray and is now now on the Canadian Channels listings (MUSIQUEPLUS Etc...)

Sidharta is influenced by noisy edgy bands such as Sonic Youth, Queens Of The Stoneage, Fugazi, The Pixies, The Doors, A Perfect Circle, Smashing Pumpkins, The Talking Heads, The Mars Volta plus many others...

Sidharta will be touring the USA this summer please check out their My Space site and Web Site for more details

"Sidharta :the sid matter review"

Sidharta: The Sid Matter 2005 Independent
Sidharta’s The Sid Matter is a six-track force of gritty vocals and unremitting booming resonance. Sidharta creates a reckoning of vigour though heavy drums and bass that resonate perfectly with their punk rock/alternative presence. Sidharta set a ground work with their EP release which provides a vista for the sound of their future full-length album. The Sid Matter is definitely an album for the profound rocker in all of us to check out; as a fan of lighter timbre, even I found myself drawn to this nice “gateway” into heavier sounds.

Sidharta has toured successfully in Europe and around Canada, and its video for “Big Murray,” which can now be seen on Canadian music channels, can also be viewed on the band’s website. The Sid Matter EP will soon be followed up with a full-length album.

Sidharta is Ouragan Jacquier (guitars/vocals), Ben Guilbaud (bass), Danick Tardif (drums). Upcoming shows for
the Montreal based-band include Lee’s Palace on January 5 and the Rivoli on January 26.

"Montreal's Sidharta take stage once Again at Norma Jean's!!"

With the bellow from beyon of Ouragan Jacquier pounding walls and opening doors, Montreal rockers Sidharta return to Norma Jean's for the third time tonight.
"the fans often speak of our drive and commitment" Jacquier tells Punk Me Up. "They know we do not want to impersonate others".
Sidharta mentions NYC alt-rock Icons Sonic Youth among its influences. Others hear Nirvana and say Sidharta's recent release Rendez-Vous does not catch the band's live power. Either way, Ouragan translates as "Hurricane".

"Sidharta at the Mansion House"

Sidharta are a grunge rock trio from Montreal with influences in both the atmospheric noise of Sonic Youth and also the distorted, catchy simplistic rock of The Pixies and Nirvana. (vocal similarities to Kurt are sometimes hard to ignore). With their 5 song EP out entitled Rendez-Vous on Addictive Records it seems they are showing their worth rather well. - Pulse Niagara

"SIDHARTA - THE SID MATTER EP REVIEW"

SIDHARTA - THE SID MATTER EP REVIEW
by Ozgur Cokyuce

Sometimes when you find something new but very familiar to you as well you hold it tightly never to lose it again.I have Sidharta's The Sid Matter EP in my hands now and it I feel like this is the thing I'm missing for a long time and searching for at the same time.

Sidharata is a Montreal based rock band with punk very strong punk influences+Dinasour Jr like guitars+Sonic Youth like drums and Fugazi/Nirvana like vocals which equals to a treasure and an amazing adventure for you.

The group consists of legendarily charismatic frontman Ouragan Jacquier (guitar/vocals), Ben Guilbaud (bass) and Danick Tardif (drums). They met in Paris, creating the foundation for the band in 2001. Before recording 2 demos they gave superb performances around Europe. Not Paris but Montreal would be the place to start this sweet addiction called Sidharta.

The Sid Matter EP has 6 songs on it which is impossible to say which one is better than the other.Every song has its own great energy and creates an atmosphere together which you don't wanna get out of.But Big Murray is the song which explains Sidharta the best.Big Murray also has a video for it.After watching it I'm sure you'll ask yourself why you haven't explored them before.Nevermind,it's not late to get on the train of Sidharta's yet as they're waiting at your station to take you to their magical wonderland;)

Sidharta has just completed a self-booked Canada—US tour from Montreal to California (Summer 2006), performing in over 20 cities.

When you look at all the things done in the history of mankind and music, until this day, music hasn't fully expressed itself yet. Everything done as music,is the very few of music can show to us.People have seen nothing yet!

There are a lot to come and more to imagine soon.........AND SIDHARTA DOES IT............

"Pop With Brains - Sidharta at The Rivoli"

By: Dapper

The Rivoli doors opened at 8:30, with a labyrinth set up that was very hard to navigate for a first time visitor. I found myself going through door after door to get to the thespian area in the back of the venue. Not even Beyonce could direct me to the proper area: to the left it was not. It was very confusing to find the stage. Just a heads-up, go straight to the back. There were not enough chairs. Give me a damn chair! The right side wall was set up as a small gallery setting for artists to sell their work. It was a very quaint setting, small and comfy.
The first band to hit the stage, Sidharta (a Montreal based rock band) entered the stage with full energy, with their heavy rock/punk sounds. They had an almost Nirvana façade to them, though they did rock it pretty hard. The sound guys cut them off early, which is unfortunate for a band that traveled so far to show off their stuff to a new crowd. Censorship of music in any form is an act that should not be organized. We should be able to express our talents by any means we are given.
The Rivoli is a good venue for dining and comedy nights; the acoustics are pretty un-ostentatious and could use a lot of work to produce a better sound, especially when dealing with live music with heavy drums and bass. With some sound work it could be a substantial music venue.
