Sidney Barnes, looking cool in a white suit and stetson, took the stage and pandemonium broke loose. Half the audience are trying to shake his hand, and the other half giving him a standing ovation.
He opens with 'Talkin 'Bout a Shindig' and it is immediately apparent that this is not just a party, it's a full blown soul celebration. The band are spot on, and the audience up and dancing, and as for Sidney he can sing.
As he leaves the stage the guy next to me manages to shake Sidney's hand and proudly tells me that he'll never wash that hand again. - I'm not sure if he's joking or not! A triumph for real soul music.
