"Is This Revolutionary? review"

Honestly, writing this took me a while. Not because I didn’t get around to it, but because I couldn’t exactly describe what I was feeling. Some Are Gods, a 4-soon-to-be-5 piece band from Lake Charles, LA, is absolutely incredible. Released on September 29th, their demo was one that really stuck out in my mind as one of the best pieces of post-rock music in 2010. Sure, Red Sparrows had an incredible full length, but they’ve been around since 2004. Some Are Gods have just arrived on the scene, and they are already making a name for themselves, and last night made an announcement that just wasn’t that surprising:

After playing in Houston last Friday, we realized that we are only getting started. We learned what we need to learn, and we have decided to take a break from playing shows for a few months. We feel we need prepare for the future. When we return, we will have a third guitarist, an EP, shirts, and stickers for sale, all new songs, and (hopefully) our own sound set-up complete with a lightshow. Stay tuned for updates.

All right, so let’s get back to the album; their songs are a little on the long side (approximately 10 minutes each), but for the genre, that isn’t exactly unheard of (Godspeed You! Black Emperor has 22 minute songs). But the content is extraordinary, on par with Russian Circles as one of the best beginning EP’s I’ve heard in the 2000's. Honestly, it’s 31.24 minutes that just take you away from whatever it was you were thinking or feeling or doing and delivers you to a place far beyond it all. The final track, “Faster, My Friend… The Old World Is Behind You” is one which really sticks out in my mind as the best on this release. It swings between high and low, soft and powerful, and is a great way to cap off a truly remarkable album.

Is This Revolutionary?: Some Are Gods made a beautiful demo in 2010, probably one of the best I’ve heard all year. Though not revolutionary quite yet, they aren’t exactly done and will be back to release another EP soon. It’s too soon to tell right now, but I believe that Some Are Gods will rise as one of the best post-rock bands in the next decade. - Is This Revolutionary?

Bio

"In addition to wielding considerable musical talent, these gentlemen use their art to lend expression to the intuitive emotional aspect of personal evolution and the unveiling of profound spiritual truth."

Signals To Vega is a melodic, instrumental rock band from Lake Charles, Louisiana. We incorporate classical composition techniques with use of modern instruments and experimentation. We are inspired by metal, post-rock, math/prog rock, and ambient music. Blending the heaviness of metal with the beauty of post-rock, we hope to be an influencing factor that will sonically assault the ego and liberate the soul.
