Biography

Toronto-based Signe Miranda's Veranda is a five-piece alternative roots-rock band who's latest release blends together a sound that seamlessly brings you on a journey from post-break-up, alt-pop-punk title track, “September Night” to warm, spacious, alt-country gem, “Like It Was Yesterday”. "September Night" received "Honorable Mention" in the 2010 Song of The Year competition (The Songwriter Foundation) and "She's Breaking Up" was #48 on NBTMusic Radio's top 100 songs of 2012, a German internet-based station.

The live band is led by singer-songwriter/guitarist (and author of the #1 International Best Selling book, "The Song Creation Formula: 7 Easy Steps to Writing Your Song") Signe Miranda, with lead guitarist/bassist Brian Allossery, drummer Shamakah Ali (Al Green, Shakura S'aida) and keyboardist Peter Nunn (Honeymoon Suite, Andy Kim). They're currently recording their follow-up album, Heart Wave, with Jeremy Trites at Rouge Valley Studios, with guest musicians, including Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo), Oh Susanna and Bill Dillon (Sarah McLachlan, Daniel Lanois, Peter Gabriel), with Greg Godovitz (Goddo) producing the first single, “It’s Been So Long.”

Lyrics

Waiting In The Lost Years

Written By: Signe Miranda

Chorus:
When are you gonna come over here
When are you gonna tell me everything
'Cos I've been waiting here for days
But I'll tell you it's nice for now.

Verse 1:
Oh babe, I love you so
Don't you worry, I won't go
You hold the cards
But I don't mind
'Cos love ain't fair
But ours is kind.

Chorus

Verse 2:
You came to me in the morning breeze
Fell in love with the greatest of ease.
Now I lie in the shadow
Waiting for the wind to blow.

Chorus

It's All So Clear To Me

Written By: Signe Miranda

Don't wanna lose you
Don't wanna gain you
Don't wanna rearrange you
Just wanna be with you.
Lost and found
Not on the ground
But all around
Never made a sound
But you, yeah, you heard me.
Yeah, it's you and me
Dylan on the tube
Where's your head at
Don't you do me like that.

'Cos babe you know
We're meant to be
More than friends
I know the trends
I ain't the one who's got the bends.
You never really know
The message it sends
There's a means to an end
Turn it around to where it's bound.
Just wanna believe with you.
You've seen the way you look at me
I've seen the way that you don't see
I can't make you believe.

But I know it's not
Make believe
It's all right here
Written on the walls
All you fears, your visions and your tears.
Don't want to restrain you
Detain you, derail you
It's all so clear
but we're getting nowhere
Right now.
But somehow
Some now will be back then
When it meant something
Well, you know it always will
I can tell.

"We're together", you said
But you left me in this bed
It was me, to there you led
So what is left to be said?
I'm not said, I'm glad
'Cos we're here
Not there, but here
And that ain't so bad my dear
My only question now is how
'Cos I know what
And you do too
And I know where
Babe it's all right here.

And when
Well it's in the future
Ain't it all so clear
'Cos the future is now and here
In the next moment.
It's all about the moment
Time and space are all relative
But that don't teach us how to live.
We just have to learn to give.
Oh, it's a question
Of learning to question
Without losing everything
Together we can sing.

Babe, you know
It's everything
What message do you bring
What's your everything
What's the message you sing?
It's you and me, you see
Where's your head at
Don't you do me like that
'Cos we can fly if we try.
There's no try, only do
And if you do, you where we're going to
It's all so clear to me.

Can't write the perfect pop song, like John
But still, I'm moving on
Jim has taught me.
So have Greg and Bob,
Neil and Danny
But Bryan and Phil
They're in the past
I'm moving on at last
But you know it's all about you.
So, what am I to do
You and me
I know I've gotta believe
I thought you'd never leave.

Now I'm ready to receive
See, you've just gotta believe
Our love is meant to be.
Our love means everything to me.

Solar Eclipse

Written By: Signe Miranda

Chorus 1:
Solar Eclipse on the edge of the world
I wish that you’d come back to me
And I don’t know where you’ll go
But I know that I wish you were here

Chorus 2:
The sun is setting so low
And I don’t really want to go
I wish that I could wake up with you
And you’d look at me with those caring eyes

Verse 1:
I wish that we could go back
Maybe we can maybe there’s time
Maybe I’ll be here if you just call
‘Cos I’m bouncing off the walls
Falling down like never before
And I don’t want to be here alone

Chorus 1

Verse 2:
Let me be the one you want
‘Cos I don’t want you to leave me alone
The snow sparkles in the light of the moon
As I sing you a new tune
The sky used to let me fly
But you won’t even let me try

Chorus 1

You Know

Written By: Signe Miranda

You Know:

I found myself falling down
You picked me up and spun me around
And now I know what it’s like
To feel so close that you know it’s right.
Love is universal and hard to explain
But my feelings are clear
And my words are plain.

Oh yeah. I love you.
And you know I’m always thinking of you.

You are all I need
And I’m so pleased
That our love keeps growing every day
You’ve made me better
But I can say
That I’m the flower and you’re the daylight
I’m the river and you’re the stream.

You made me see
How good it could be
And falling is alright
When it’s for you.

Chorus

No Sweet Goodbyes

Written By: Signe Miranda

No Sweet Goodbyes

Verse 1:
Oh you, you didn't know.
You didn't think you were breaking my heart
'Cos you knew it was falling apart
I looked down and realized
That I lost everything.

Verse 2:
Oh you, you didn't know...
Leave behind what's left before
Peace of mind and a closing door
Time will tell the truth for all
You can't find what's meant to be lost.

Chorus:
No sweet goodbyes
No web of lies
Left in the cold
With the truth that you told.

Verse 3:
Oh you, you didn't know...
Didn't know why you couldn't find
The answer to the hearts that bind
The journey ends
The journey begins
End the cycle and the answer is there.

Chorus:
No sweet goodbyes
No web of lies
Left in the cold
With the truth that you told.

September Night

Written By: Signe Miranda

Forget my troubles; I'll move on.
Love is lost and love is gone.
As the train pulls up to this old town,
I wonder how long I'll be down.

Packed my bags and locked the door.
I used to dream of so much more.
How did you walk out before?
Our love is lying on the floor.

Listened to my favourite song.
It reminded me of days long gone.
September night when you got back,
You asked me to help us get on track.
Oh.....

We're falling away, but still holding on.
I tried to keep our love strong.
Where did I go wrong?
I tried so hard for so long.
Oh...

Where did we go, where did we go, where did we go wrong...

Let's go right back to the start.
I'll play to win; I'll do my part.
Time and time and time again,
I know our love is gonna win.

Going back to my hometown.
I don't wanna bring you down.
I wish I could stay with you
And show you that our love is true.
Oh...

Pulled up to the station tracks.
You are are all that I want back.
I don't wanna go nowhere.
With you, I was somewhere.
And I'm so blue without you.
Ya, I'm so blue without you.

It's where I wanna go
Toronto
From Scarborough to Etobicoke

How do you get around

I'm gonna take the TTC from Kipling to McCowan
Head out on my bike to the Scarborough Bluffs
Ride along the lake back downtown

Toronto
It's where I wanna go
Toronto
From Scarborough to Etobicoke

It's the city I love
It's the city I love
Do do do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do do do

Through the downtown core to the Annex
Queen St. West through Kensington
Take the Yonge line up to North York
Parkdale to Lesleyville
St. Clair West to the Junction

It's the city I love
It's the city I love

Yorkville to Rosedale
Take the ferry out to the islands
Have a picnic along the beach
Watch the sun go down just out of reach

It's the city I love
It's the city I love

Toronto
It's where I wanna go
Toronto
From Scarborough to Etobicoke

You Changed Everything

Written By: Signe Miranda

Chorus:
You . . . . . . . . .You changed everything. (x3)

Verse 1:
Turned my whole world upside down.
Made me think about things I forgot.
Turned me into something I'm not,
But maybe that's just who I am.

Chorus:
You . . . . . . . . .You changed everything. (x3)

Verse 2:
Turned me into something I fear.
Being without you I can't bear.
Do you know what you're doin' to me?
You're turnin' me inside out.

Chorus:
You . . . . . . . . .You changed everything. (x3)

Bridge (instrumental)

Verse 3:
Think I love you, maybe I don't.
Hardly even know you, want to now.
Can't sleep, or think about anything else,
'Cos it's you

Chorus:
You . . . . . . . . .You changed everything. (x3)

Set List

I play all original songs, sometimes solo, sometimes duo, sometimes with my band (Signe Miranda's Veranda).

A typical set list would include mostly original songs. I've covered U2, Bryan Adams and Joni Mitchell.

I can play one, two or three 30-45-minute sets. I have about 120 minutes of original music that I regularly perform live.
