"Wavelength (zine)"

"WAVELENGTH #89 Sunday November 11, 10pm

Purveyor of: Heart-on-cardigan-sleeve acoustic pop

One fine Wavelength, Jonny Dovercourt was at the bar trying to procure more Steam Whistle when he found something else being pressed into his palm. Looking down, he spied Stu Stout and realized the digits of his hand were being wrapped around a cassette tape. "Jonny, you have to book this woman," said Stu, then promptly disappeared in a cloud of cigarette smoke. Later, jolted awake at 4am by a strange dream involving a solar eclipse, a concrete city, ... Jonny stumbled downstairs, put the cassette in the deck and realized Stu was right." - Jonny Dovercourt

Bio

Intricate drumming, played with punk intensity. The subterranean growl of a five-string bass. Infectious guitar riffs that echo in your skull for days. Then the singer opens her lips. A sweet, angelic melody, framing “heart-on-cardigan-sleeve” lyrics. Their songs are reminiscent of the raw energy of The Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth and the melodic sensibility of The Breeders.

Recorded live off-the-floor on an analog open-reel 4-track, in their 45 degree Celsius rehearsal space (a.k.a. The Sauna), Solar Eclipse captures the raw energy of the band’s live performances. They charted on CIUT (89.5 FM) in Toronto for three weeks (two weeks in the top 5) and on the national !earshot charts.

Signe Miranda formed the band in January of 2001, with a couple of friends that she met at open stages in Toronto. Growing up in Belleville, Ontario, Signe developed her own songwriting style. Fellow Bellevillian, bassist Jeff Daze, drives the band’s sound with his energetic and melodic approach. Drummer Jamie Tanner, a five-year veteran of Toronto's hardcore scene, has an intense improvisational style that forms the bedrock of the band.
