"Signum A.D. "The Unsilenced" Review"

Signum A.D. "The Unsilenced" Review
It's extremely uncommon for a new band to have the backing of big players within the music industry on their first album, let alone the fact of having those big players put their own hard work into something basically unproven. Signum A.D. is one of the very lucky few who have had this fortune and clearly there was good reason for Brett Hestla (producer;Framing Hanley, Dark New Day), Kato Khandwala (mixed; Breaking Benjamin) and Tom Baker (mastered; Sevendust, 10 Years) to commit their time to Signum A.D.'s first album, The Unsilenced.

The kick-ass Kansas quartet made sure that they followed the feeling that first impressions are important and in that case I say, "Welcome to the party Signum A.D!" The Unsilenced starts off with a short, twisted instrumental titled "The Calling" that serves as a precursor to the emotion and strength behind the entire record.

The following track "Walls That Falls" has all the makings of a radio hit and to me could easily serve as the albums first single. Caution: Well written lyrics and an intense guitar riff serving as the backbone of this musical animal may cause you to have this song caught in your head for days. The album doesn't lighten up on bad ass rock n' roll after that. "Free," "At The Seams" and " Sad But Not Forgotten" simply add to the albums rock n' roll strength, and trust me it is Hercules strong, especially considering it's their first album.

The lyrics are pristine and have a range from kicking your ass with growling screams to stealing your girlfriend by serenading her with acoustic-accompanied whispers. This all on top of the fact that the drums and guitar create a unique sound without sounding like they're trying too hard, they're just kicking your ass with their own feeling and sound. I wouldn't just suggest this album and band to my fellow rock n' rollers, but I beg and plead you to check them out and give your dirty little rockstar eardrums a little treat with Signum A.D.'s "The Unsilenced." - Hard-Rock-Reviews.com

"Feature Artist: Signum A.D."

Kansas-based alternative rockers, SIGNUM AD are the Featured Artist for January 2011. Please click through to read the entire article.

Two labels, and three mixes after Signum A.D. entered the studio in 2007, the four piece active rock band from Augusta, KS is finally positioned to take the country by storm. Their debut album, ’The Unsilenced’ reads like a who’s who in modern rock.

The album was produced by Brett Hestla (Framing Hanley, Dark New Day), mixed by Kato Khandwala (Breaking Benjamin, Paramore), and mastered by Tom Baker (Sevendust, 10 Years). The album is a stellar freshman release, featuring standout radio tracks like ‘Bleeding Sun,’ ‘Down,’ ‘Walls That Fall,’ and ‘Who I Am.’

Signum A.D.’s powerful sound is sculpted by Dave Ruyle’s commanding baritone voice belting viral melodies, Elliott Ecton’s heavy-handed finesse on the guitar, and Brentin Deimel (bass) and D.L.’s (drums) airtight rhythm section. When you mix this all together you are left with a sound that is extremely hard-hitting, but somehow maintains a pop sensibility, which opens up their demographic to more than the typical rock band.

The live experience, with vocal harmonies many bands covet, earthquake soundscapes screaming from their tube amps, neck-breaking rhythms, and an infectious energy, is almost guaranteed to turn the crowd into fans.

"Introducing Signum A.D."

Formed in Augusta, KS by vocalist/guitarist Dave Ruyle, guitarist Elliott Ecton, bassist Brentin Deimel and drummer D.L., Signum A.D. is a very promising, hard-rocking band. After playing together in another music group, Dave and Elliot recruited Brentin and D.L., Dave switched from bass to vocal and in 2006 the four started to rock.
In April 2008 they recorded a short EP titled ‘Music As Morphine’ with five tracks that later appeared retouched on their debut album ‘The Unsilenced’ released in June 2010 via Cage Rattle Records. The album was produced and mixed by well-known names, such as Brett Hestla, Tom Baker and Kato Khandwalam, and contains a number of outstanding songs including ‘Before I break’, ‘Bleeding Sun’, ‘Who I Am’ and the powerful ballad 'Down'. With face-melting guitars, strong vocals and a huge dose of energy these tracks will get your head banging right away. Yet they are still pretty radio friendly with great melodies, and would appeal to a number of listeners, especially fans of rock, metal and alternative should be delighted.
In addition to original compositions the band also recorded a cover version of "Died In Your Arms" by Cutting Crew, which you can listen to on their MySpace page.
Signum A.D. is actively playing and expanding their fan base all around the country. Chances are they will also come to Chicago soon. Be sure to check them out.

LINE-UP:
Dave Ruyle – lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Elliott Ecton – lead guitar, backup vocals
Brentin Deimel – bass
D.L. – drums - Rock On! Magazine

"Signum A.D. Music Review"

I NEVER do this (release my source of finding a band) but I feel absolutely compelled to because I am totally happy this person turned me onto Signum A.D., so a great big THANK YOU to Evs.

The first song on their album “The Unsilenced”, was The Calling. Although not really a “song” as it was an intro to the album. “The Calling” had a type of thing that I would expect from a band like Linkin Park. It was really cool and set off the mood of the album rather nicely.

“The Calling” led into the song “Walls That Fall”. Walls That Fall is a killer song and probably the best choice of songs to lead this album. I could really hear the influences of music these guys have. I could pretty much imagine Korn playing this song in front of a million people. It was hard, but not over bearing. The vocals were killer and really complimented the music behind them.

I really want to talk about their song “Down”. This was my absolute favorite song on their album. It is a type of laid back type of almost love song with acoustic guitar in it. It wasn’t my favorite because of the type of song it was but I feel that it really showed their diversity in music and the way they play. After listening to the other songs from Signum A.D., I was NOT expecting this song by any means. I am amazed and dumbfounded that this particular song is not on every major radio station in the world.

There is a ton of stuff that I want to write about Signum A.D. but if I did, it would take pages upon pages upon pages. All I can say is get out there and purchase their album “The Unsilenced” on ITunes right freaking NOW!!! You ever hear that expression “You’re a fan but you don’t know it yet”. Well, that’s true with these guys. You are a fan, but you just don’t know it yet.

"Interview With Kansas Rockers Signum A.D."

In a world full of social media sites where every band under the sun can get their music heard, it’s hard to set yourself apart and get noticed. So how do you get your name out there? With talent, hard work, ambition and the ability to be true to what you are playing.

Three and a half years ago Signum A.D. was born just twenty minutes outside of Wichita, Kansas in Augusta but they claim Wichita because not too many people realize where Augusta is. Since then they have pooled their collective talents to become one bad ass rockin’ band.
Signum A.D.’s freshman release ‘The Unsilenced’ is raw power barely held in check. The hard hitting yet radio friendly songs will appeal to a wide range of hard rock and heavy metal listeners with crunching guitars, slamming bass and a huge drum sound led by the rocking baritone voice of Dave Ruyle. The songs are catchy, and stick in your head after hearing them only one time. The song ‘Bleeding Sun’ submerses you in heavy bass, with some serious guitar licks building up to Dave’s countdown to the chorus “ five, four, three, two, one”, then opening up into an all out musical assault. The rest of the songs on this album don’t let up, as wave after wave of melodic metal invade your senses. - Interstatelive.com

"Wichita Band Gains Exposure After Debut Album"

After entering the recording studio to lay down some tracks as a new, modern rock band in 2007, Signum A.D. has taken on the rock world by force. The band is starting to get more exposure since members started touring and expanded their fan base after their June debut, "The Unsilenced."
The four-piece band formed just a couple years ago in Augusta, Kan. They released a short EP album titled "Music As Morphine" in April 2008, which included five songs that appear retouched on "The Unsilenced." In the past, Signum A.D. has served as opening act for bands like Cinderella, Halestorm and Chevelle.
"The Unsilenced" was produced and mixed by well-known names who have worked with successful bands in the past, such as producer Brett Hestla, who has worked with bands like Framing Hanley and Dark New Day. Kato Khandwalam, who has mixed Breaking Benjamin, mixed the album, and it was mastered by Tom Baker, who has worked with 10 Years and Sevendust. The album would probably appeal to fans of these bands; "The Unsilenced" has a familiar sound that shows the influence these bands have had.
The album begins with "Walls That Fall," which is a stellar track next to other songs like "Down" and "At The Seams." The heavy guitar riffs of "Walls That Fall" mixed with front-man Dave Ruyle's strong and raw vocals make the song. This is a great opening song because it can catch the listener's attention right away. Other noteworthy songs on this album are "Free," "Sad But Not Forgotten" and "Who I Am."
Starting as a small band from Wichita, the members of Signum A.D. are starting to branch out and get their music exposed to rock fans all around the country. With this debut album, it's exciting to see what else they can do. With their growing fan base and their new release, this could be just the beginning for the band. "Signum A.D. -But Not A.D.D."

Sit tight, I’ve got a story to tell. In 2007, sound waves echoed through the city of Augusta, Kansas. These sound waves belonged to a group of four musical wizards; David Ruyle (vocals/guitars), Elliott Ecton (guitar/vocals), Brentin Deimel (bass), and David Lyon (drums). At that time a deep, punching ache belonged to a world of people hungry for more powerful modern rockers. Little did the world know that buried inside the sound waves, waiting to be exposed to their ears was a group hammering away songs that would quench the unfulfilled needs of the people. Although it took years of finding the right label, the right mixing and the Ethers to align, these sound waves manifested completely into a kick ass band called Signum A.D.
Although when I do music reviews and refer to a song as a “radio song” I don’t mean that it was actually on the radio. I mean that I think the song would be played on a radio. However, this group boasts four powerful songs already on the radio: “Down,” “Walls That Fall,” “Bleeding Sun,” and “Who I Am.” Impressive eh?
It sure as s*** is. These guys scored a powerful team of audio engineers to make the album every bit as good as the hype, if not better. Take Brett Hestla who produced Dark New Day, use Kato Khandwala who mixed Breaking Benjamin and Paramore, add the Mastering Master of Sevendust and 10 Years, Tom Baker, and commit suicide if this album sucks. Actually, that’s a joke, don’t commit suicide. What I’m saying is that this combination of impressive masters has combined to make an album worthy of epic proportions. Read my album review for their “The Unsilenced” debut to see what I mean.
These guys hit hard, give it their all and leave you nearly without breath. I can only imagine what their live performances must be like. These guys are fresh on the scene and I’m aiming to help them get into one of the top spots on your mp3 player. In an effort to do so I invite you to read this exclusive interview. Use the restroom first if you must.
