"East Village act Sikamor Rooney listens like a tasty tribute to our latter-day rock and roll saints."

I couldn't have asked for a better 26th band than Sikamor Rooney. As I crossed the finish line, they whizzed by me, seemingly unaware the racewas over. Their rapid-fire country punk sneered and spat with disregard like an unchained beast with rock star swagger. Scathing and snotty like the Black Lips with some of the retro sass of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the trio barn-burned through grimy numbers like the Iggy Pop-ish "Dirty Dog" noticeably drunk even though it was only 5:30. Their final song couldn't have been a better finale with a more perfect title, wrapping up my marathon with three fateful, self- explanatory letters that sum it all up: "N. Y. C."

"makes you kinda drunk and want to get all sexy with a large woman."

Sikamor Rooney is one of those bands that has such an eclectic mash of personalities it could be destined to either blow up like a Molotov cocktail or be the type of concoction that makes you kinda drunk and want to get all sexy with a large woman.

"stuff for gutter darlings"

Strange bits and jangled licks, Dylan versus the Kinks for the night’s last cigarette... SIKAMOR ROONEY send “New York City Gunner”. Street wise folk rock that roars as it rolls from bar to bar looking for a ‘Dirty Girl’ or two. Great stuff for gutter darlings and village drunks, six pack of PBR sold separately.

Bio

Sikamor Rooney began in downtown New York City, in 2004, as a side-project created by musician Brad York, then the lead-singer of "The Low Flying Jets." Realizing that LFJ's "set" sound did not fully accommodate his wide-ranging musical and writing style, York pulled songs that hadn't worked for his band and laid the foundation for Sikamor Rooney's first EP. Recorded in one-week's time, Love Hates was an expression of York's individual artistic voice and an unmistakable nod to icons from the 1960s era of rock-and-roll, such as the Kinks, Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, Beach Boys and Bob Dylan, and more current influences like the White Stripes, the Libertines, Black Lips and Ryan Adams.

Shortly after LFJ broke in 2007, York recorded Sikamor Rooney's second album, NYC Gunner. Six months later he linked up with bassist Anthony Chick and drummer Jef Plate, like-minded musicians, making for an immediate and natural connection. Recorded over Fourth-of-July weekend in 2008 at “The Dude Ranch Studio” in Wannamassa, NJ, the self-titled Sikamor Rooney album was produced by all three band members and studio-owner, Ian Larkin, who also engineered the project. The self-titled album was a huge indication of the band's evolution from a one-man show to a complete group.

In search of new exposure, Sikamor Rooney hit the airwaves and appeared on Fearless Music TV. Their song, “Sunday Night Demons,” was put into rotation. Shortly after, the band was featured on Playboy TV’s ‘Around the World in 80 Babes’ – a reality show that was released on the network worldwide. By the end of 2008 they had played over 60 shows touring along the east coast, and had opened up for known acts like Nicole Atkins and the Sea, The Parlor Mob, The SuperSuckers, Gay Blades, Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head, Band of Thieves and Weston.

Sikamor Rooney celebrates New York, the city in which they came together, and the sins of its downtown street culture, muses that are especially apparent in the songs "Dirty Dog" and "NYC." Choosing influences that directly inspire and resonate with their roots-rock sound, Sikamor Rooney's authenticity stands out among the manufactured and packaged acts common to the mainstream.
