"Newbs for your listening pleasure"

"Silas Fermoy is a medley of musical dudes from New York and London, England who have come together from their respective backgrounds to create a combination of old school harmony and modern catchy pop peppered with unique notes and pitches. Vocalist Joshua Mash boasts a smooth, sultry voice that threatens to completely encompass, and bandmates Jordan Brower and Sam Ellner ensure that he weaves his vocal web to a background of clean, precise melodies." - NYC Social Status

"Silas Fermoy "Chapters" Review"

Silas Fermoy is a trio of young guys; Joshua Mash, Jordan Brower, and Sam Ellner all of whom are based in Brooklyn, New York. Although Bromer and Ellner were originally from the New York area, it was their vocalist and keyboardist Mash who moved to California from his home of London, England to persue his passion for music. The three met, began collaborating together, and eventually Silas Fermoy was founded. The three just recently embarked on their first, crowd-sourced/ Kickstarter funded tour that included gigs across the U.S as well as a slot at SXSW.
Chapters is their debut album and although it’s a little short (it contains six tracks and clocks in at around twenty-five minutes), it’s filled with something quite interesting and irresistibly unique; the opening track “Sound Of A Daydream” is bound to strike an almost weirdly aroused curiosity. On the group’s site, they claim to draw sounds from artists like Radiohead, Bob Marley, Arcade Fire, and even Beirut. Now, although you can sort of draw some similarities, it can also be a little tough to clearly draw a connection between the four. However, it would seem that Silas Fermoy could be in the midst of that missing link.
“Sound Of A Daydream” introduces us to a groovy, head-bobbing baseline followed by a retro 80’s-esque, alien infused synth. A frantic drum beat comes along and with that we are offered our first hearing of Mash’s soft, harmonizing voice that fits in almost perfectly with the music itself and offers a nice touch that helps bring all the music together. The album has a really awesome timeless feel that is layered and experimented upon with very genre-defying influences and sounds. It is a great formula and each song plays and stands out in its own way. ‘Hideout’ slows us down just a bit and is sprinkled with easy to dig hooks and cleverly placed keys. “Lights Burn Bright” includes great song structure, consistently building up and stripping down at just the right moments.

Ending off on a track that softly carries you through, “Learn To Fly Again” brings with it an epic guitar solo that seems to be missing from many other great acts these days and helps further bring to light that Silas Fermoy is just a band playing music that they truly, truly enjoy. They do not seem to be playing for anyone else but themselves and it is great to hear. There is a really cool DIY vibe on the whole record itself and you can almost picture the smiles on the faces that these guys must bear when they are together jamming out. Do yourself and Silas Fermoy a favour and support Chapters. - Unnomdeguerre

"Silas Fermoy-Lights Burn Bright"

It's not uncommon for musicians to travel to pursue their ambitions and certain cities are thriving hotspots for activity. In the England it's London that attracts people the most, in the US it's various locations in California or Portland if you're on the west coast, or the New York area if you're on the east. Joshua Mash must know the vibes of these places better than most. Originally from London, he moved to California and then to New York where he formed Silas Fermoy with Jordan Brower and Sam Ellner. On April 9th the band release their debut EP 'Chapters', six songs that take in a wide range of influences.

They cite Bob Marley, Radiohead, Beirut and Little Dragon, which sounds like it would make for a strange tasting musical cocktail, but in reality the fact that Silay Fermoy can write pop hooks with a commercial edge makes this mix turn out a whole lot better. Single 'Lights Burn Bright' could be described as indie/rock, but sure enough you get the twang of reggae peeping through and the energy of Little Dragon making this a track that you can dance to as well. From travelling to multiple locations with a multitude of influences Silas Fermoy have created multi-purpose music. - The Sound Of Confusion

Bio

Silas Fermoy began in New York after singer/songwriter Joshua Mash switched from playing acoustic music to buying his first synth keyboard, and recording in his home studio. Over the next four years, it grew into an indie/rock/pop outfit with an array of New York musicians lending their talents to the project. In that course of time, they released the EP titled "Chapters" and toured all over the east coast from Philadelphia to Austin, TX where they played SXSW music festival in 2013.

When 2015 hit, Josh yearned to return to northern California where he’d spent part of his childhood, but before leaving, he recruited former Elefant drummer Kevin McAdams, and producer Jason Cummings to help record his final New York EP, “Clouds that Dropped You.” After its release, Josh drove across country and began recruiting musicians in the Bay Area who all shared his vision. He met guitarist Phillip Pope, with whom he felt an immediate musical connection with and they began writing new material.

With vigorous rehearsal and time spent on perfecting their new material, Silas Fermoy looks to bring their sound to the West Coast. They are currently joined by Dylan Garrison on Drums and Mike Humphreys on Bass.
