"Silicon Girls' Rana LP Is Fast, Cheap ($7!) & Out of Control"

Silicon Girls is three gleeful Eastside boys--David Fure, Jake Matthews, and Niko Stathakopoulos--of the Old Redmond Firehouse crew who make vertiginous, breakneck music complete with wobbling guitars, bratty vocals, and one educational number ("Greatriot!") that solemnly recites some Presidential similarities between Lincoln and Kennedy, kind of like if Sonic Youth taught your history class.

"Greatriot!" can be found on the Girls' new 9-song full-length, Rana, which includes a few manic instrumental tracks, some bow-sawing of the guitar, and an album-closing saga entitled "Tylenol Pt. 1" and "Tylenol Pt. 2." You can stream Rana in full on their Bandcamp page and then download for only $7. (Except for "Greatriot!," which these scholarly boys have made available for free.)

Silicon Girls, who've opened shows for Titus Andronicus and Kimya Dawson, next have a show at the Rendezvous on Wednesday, April 18, when they will open for Screaming Females, Neighbors, and So Pitted. The show starts at 9 p.m. and there's a $7 cover. - Seattle Weekly

"The Passion of Titus Andronicus: Live at the Vera Project, 4/10/11"

"Their two supporting acts indicated the breadth of Titus' forays outside the punk landscape, easing the modestly-growing audience into the caustic main event. Openers Silicon Girls, a newly-formed, locally-based trio of teenage musicians, managed to break the ice with a heady dose of post-everything textures and atmospherics. Invoking the chilly slow burn of Mogwai, dizzying tempo shifts of Sonic Youth and reined-in shoegazey jams from one song to the next, they playfully dodged any concerted attempt to pin their sound down, but got most of the crowd to agree their heads ought to be moving. They're still at a nascent stage, feeling out their influences and discovering strengths around which to build a defining sound, but certainly worth watching as they mature along with their music." - Music Mind Zone

"Titus Andronicus, Mansions and Silicon Girls at the Vera Project"

"Two guitars and drums, interesting sound, the drummer's active so he fills the bottom end pretty well. " - Virtual Sound

Bio

Hello, we are three piece surf/punk/noise band called, Silicon Girls. We formed over a year and a half ago in Redmond, Washington and have played all over the NW since. We combine Fast and punchy guitars with intense drums to form songs that play with time signatures, tempo and volume. Seattle weekly described us as making "vertiginous, breakneck music complete with wobbling guitars, and bratty vocals". Live we blast through our songs, turning the mechanical song structure into noisy soundscapes, then change them right back in planed bursts of sonic schizophrenia.
