Next up were Silverclub, a band we’d previously seen with grass under our feet while braving the elements at the first ever Friends Of Mine Festival a few months ago. Tonight we unusually had carpet under our feet, in a very plush made to measure temporary venue. The only problem with this carpeted venue is that it did tend to create a static atmosphere; no electricity in the air, the crowd not fully relaxed enough to commit themselves. Nonetheless, Silverclub did everything they could to turn the springy floorboards into a communal trampoline.
Pulsating ‘80s inspired synths reverberated around the pavilion. A great sound-system adeptly brought to life their expansive set-up, from synth-sprinkles of Henrietta Smith-Rolla, programmed elements and scratching of G-Kut, Chris McGrath’s bass undercurrent, front-man Duncan Edward Jones’ cowbell clattering, to Jim Noir’s fervid drumming (reported by Dave Haslam to be his last night with the group). For those unaware of Silverclub, they have some well-crafted songs which you can listen to here, but live for some reason they seem to undergo a metamorphosis, changing into huge electro-anthems. Refreshingly too, their best moments seem to come from new material outside of the previously released Answers and All In All EP’s, although we’re pretty sure we heard front-man, Jones, singing about ‘parsley, sage and rosemary’ at one point – hopefully that was just the tinnitus affecting our hearing after a vibrant set. - Northern Noise

Silverclub started out as a project based around the studio experiments of Duncan Edward Jones, who previously performed as underground techno artist DNCN before moving on to pursue a wider range of genres. The band formed when Jones put together some demos on equipment borrowed from British singer/songwriter Jim Noir, who instructed him to go and record some songs, but not exactly in those light words. The result was a handful of danceable electro-pop tracks fit with upbeat melodies and sharp instrumentals.
Based in Manchester, Silverclub benefits from the skills of Chris McGrath (bass), Henrietta Smith-Rolla (sythn/vox), Jim Noir (drums, co-production) and all round electronics and turntable wizard G-Kut (electronics/serato/percussion). In terms of musical inspiration, Jones includes Beck, Depeche Mode, David Bowie, and Matthew Dear, but explains, "I often don't realize I have taken an influence into my music until someone else points it out."
The December 2010 release of Silverclubs acclaimed Answers EP cemented their position as one of the UKs most exciting new acts. They progressed from their first gig to centre-stage on last year's official In The City: Unsigned list in just over three months, taking in prestige gigs such as the Glastonbury Festival and Diesel xXx along the way. Silverclubs anticipated second EP No Application will be released on November 22nd through Hidden Pony Records, with a full-length album set for early 2012.
