"Silver Night Drive supporting Jet at the Enmore Theatre"

Melbourne foursome “Silver Night Drive” get us warmed up with Andre Warhurst vox/guitar, Ben Timmis, guitar, Simon Smith, bass and Ian Kitney on drums. The relative unknowns are an unexpected treat. They’re a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll - a kind of route 66 road trip band – think along the lines of Tom Petty with a splash of The Boss. There’s no moody rock posturing or cockey cock sureness about them. They’re as comfortable on the big Enmore stage as I am with my beer watching them. Keep your good eye out for them, it’s good stuff.

"SND supporting Jet at Enmore Theatre"

For a band that plays mostly pub shows around Melbourne, Silver Night Drive seemed very comfortable performing in a much larger venue. Their sound is reminiscent of seventies glam rock bands like Kiss, Slade and the Ted Mulry Gang but their stage attire isn't, luckily. Front man Andre Warhurst struts about the stage with vigour while the rest of the group knuckle down and belt out their driving boogie rhythm. The crowd reception is decent for a band that is a relative unknown to most of the patrons. If this is what they're like playing to a half-full theatre, their shows in smaller venues must really be something.

Bio

Silver Night Drive's combination of soaring vocals and harmonies, muscular guitars and a driving rhythm section is a potent live force not seen for many years.

The band has been gaining plenty of praise both locally and abroad over the past few months, including David Bowie/T-Rex producer Tony Visconti describing them as the most exciting band he'd heard all year. Their recent performances supporting Jet at the Forum and Enmore theatres received both critical acclaim and an outstanding audience response.

Silver Night Drive is fronted by guitarist extraordinaire Andre Warhurst (guest guitarist on Jet's album Get Born and considered one of the finest in the country). His impressive performances are complemented by the guitar, vocals and keyboards of Ben Timmis, the bass of Simon Smith and the beats of Ian Kitney (Tim Rogers and the Temperance Union.) Each of these musicians brings with them a wealth of musical and performance ability which has blown audiences away across the country.

After finishing recordings earlier this year with renowned producer Jonathan Burnside (Sleepy Jackson, Dallas Crane), and now putting finishing touches to their debut album for imminent release, Silver Night Drive are having a big 2006 and are set for an even bigger 2007.
