Bio
After 15 years of collaborating on recordings, producing, engineering and mastering an innumerable amount of music projects (Dr. Noh, Stars, Torngat, Arcade Fire) Montreal’s gentle giant, Marcus Paquin, decided it was time to lock himself in his studio and dedicate himself to his own.
After meeting drummer, Liam O’Neil (Make a Circus, Young Galaxy), the match was made and together in 2007 and they gave birth to Silver Starling. Later joined by Marika Anthony-Shaw (Arcade Fire), and Peter X (Parkside Jones, Sevens Project), this band now reveals its diversity through layers of melodies, contrasts, and driving rhythms all supporting Marcus’ clear, articulate and heartbreakingly honest vocals. These images and ideas can clearly be perceived on titles tracks like Ghosts, Caught in Your Glow and Something over Nothing.
Silver Starling’s self-titled debut will be released on Last Gang Records (Metric, New Pornographers, Crystal Castle) in September of 2009 and be distributed in both in Canada and the USA. Co-produced by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), their sound has been described as Jeff Buckley meets The Beatles meets Wilco meets Daniel Lanois. The album reflects the essence of family, of pain and loss, as well as identity, support and growth. Simply put, Silver Starling make music that inspires us to move beyond moulds, move beyond categorization.
Summer plans include playing the Hillside Festival in Guelph on the last weekend of July 2009 as well as well as the Osheaga Festival in Montreal on August 1st 2009.
