Bio
From the peaceful surrounds of Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula comes a breath of fresh air for creativity and unashamed self-discovery - meet Simon Imrei; story teller, songwriter and recovering cover-band member.
Onstage at some of Melbourne's most exciting muso nights and acoustic venues, the road is just beginning for Simon. His songs (think John Mayer and Pete Murray, with a bit of the rhythmic versatility and folk finger-picking) are a mixture of modern acoustic pop hooks, tinged with the sensibilities of blues and jazz.
But these only provide the framework for his storytelling. Writing most comfortably with his acoustic guitar, Simon draws inspiration from life, love, and the intricacies filling both. These songs are a collection of stories detailing the ever-changing life-education of a 22 year old.
Excelling in solo-acoustic mode, Simon skill-fully blends rhythm and lead guitar to create a full and captivating journey which, along with his lyrical sincerity, allows audiences to relate to real life experiences, whilst also satisfying their musical interests.
Simon's background includes over five years in the Melbourne 'cover-band-scene' as both solo-performer and also as part of one of Powerhouse Entertainment Agency's headline bands 'Fudge'. His years with the Agency gave him the opportunity to observe and share the stage with some of the Peninsula's most talented musicians and entertainers.
It is with two of these people, Jason Dean and Simon Moran of 'Evolupe Productions', that Simon recently completed his first professional recording. What was to be a rushed demo, turned to releasable EP with a few creative developments and Tony "Jack the Bear" Mantz's well renowned mastering abilities put to use at Sing Sing Studios, Melbourne. The result; a five-song disc showcasing Simon solo (as is his current gigging format), with a few added arrangements and production, forming his debut release.
Needless to say, it's an exciting time for this young songwriter. Years worth of self-contained ideas and observations are being unveiled as Simon journeys through the unknown, into the original music scene and onto the stages of Melbourne and beyond.
