Biography

Simon Rain is a singer and a songwriter based in Stockholm, Sweden.

His debut album 1+1=1 has just been completed in July (2010). It is a self-produced effort, with all music and lyrics written by Simon Rain. Lyrically, the songs deal with the existential topics of singularity, purpose, relationships with others and oneself, love, loneliness, etc.

The sound varies from flamboyant pop-rock (The Screen, Child) to colorful, mesmerizing singer/songwriter melodies (Alone, 1+1=1, Visions).

The songs Rain and The Screen have been featured in national music contests like Metro on Stage and Svensktoppen Nästa, with a considerable number of votes and positive reviews. The Screen was selected among the top finalists at Svensktoppen Nästa (2010) and presented on P4 SverigesRadio, Stockholm.

The album 1+1=1 comes three years after Simon's first original EP- The Art of Letting Go..(2007). The single Coming Home was placed at #18 (out of ca 2000 songs) at the Metro Music Challenge (2008) music contest.

Simon Rain's involvement with music dates back to when he was five years old and had just started taking lessons in cello and ear-training. After more than eight years of classical music, he decided to switch onto the guitar. He continued developing his skills through college. After graduating from university with a business degree and a short employment, Simon was accepted, as the only guitar player for the year, to study jazz performance at the Prins Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Holland. Under the New York Comes to Groningen program, he studied with prominent jazz musicians and teachers such as Brian Lynch, David Berkman, Ralph Peterson Jr., and others. Discovering his love for singing and composition, Simon moved on to follow his own musical journey as a singer/songwriter.

The Screen

The Screen

You say that I am difficult
You say I’m strange
But all that’s normal in this world
Seems so deranged
To me
What’s all the crazy fuss about
What’s all that noise
Why’s everybody stressing out
What’s with that voice
Say
Don’t you think that it seems
Life is nothing but big fat movie scene
And the drama is real
But only until
Lights reveal
The screen
Sometimes I feel like a little child
Who’s lost her way
Cars trains streets strange faces
Running wild
I lose my mind
What all the crazy fuss about
What’s all that noise
Why’s everybody so fucking stressed
What’s with that voice
Say
Don’t you think that it seems
Life is nothing but big fat movie scene
And the drama is real
But only until
Lights reveal
The screen

1+1=1

My life has just begun
To fall
I though that I was in control
And played the leading role
What a thing to see
That with or without me
Life goes on just like it did
And now that we made up
Our minds
Just like we’ve done a thousand times
A thousand last goodbyes
Strange to see it’s true
But with or without you
Life goes on just like it should
There’s no one here
Where you and I appear
Before we merge and disappear
And love is true
But not for me and you
Cause one plus one makes one not two
I needed someone else
To blame
I needed someone to explain
You caused me so much pain
But what’s with all the fuss
If with or without us
Life goes on just like it does
There’s no one here
Where you and I appear
Before we merge and disappear
And love is true
But not for me and you
Cause one plus one makes one not two
And all is this
This is all
Nothing less or more
There’s no one here
Where you and I appear
Before we merge and disappear
And love is true
But not for me and you
Cause one plus one makes one not two

Alone

Alone

Take two
The same
Old song
Again
I got
It wrong
It’s such
A crazy
Game
Rewind
Repeat
The same
But now it’s time to go
Where I don’t see where I don’t know
For life’s too short to stick around too long
And when you’ve given all you could until you’re torn
And the one thing in return is that you’ve grown
Alone
Alone
Alone
It seems
The spark
Won’t die
As hard
As we
May try
But love
Dries out
In thought
While you
And I
Grow old
But now it’s time to go
Where I don’t see where I don’t know
For life’s too short to stick around too long
And I have given all I could and now I’m torn
And the one thing in return is that I’ve grown
Alone
Alone
Alone

Rain

When the morning comes around
Will we still be lovers
Or friends again
Will we take our time in bed
Before I take that shower
Before you take your train
Your words are warm and kind
But words is all I’ve got
The trace you leave behind
Is not measured by a letter count
The time should come when we must
Fight for what we say is right
The time is now
The time is now
Can you let the rain
Come pouring in to take away the pain
For we don’t need it anymore
Can you let the sun
Come dry your tears and watch you as you run
Childlike free as you were once
Before
When the morning comes around
Will you be a stranger
Who knows my name
Or will you hide inside my arms
Away from cold and danger
Far from pride and shame
Your words are warm and kind
But words is all I’ve got
The trace you leave behind
Is not measured by a letter count
The time should come when we must
Fight for what we say is right
The time is now
The time is now
Can you let the rain
Come pouring in to take away the pain
We don’t need it anymore
Can you let the sun
Come dry your tears and watch you as you run
Childlike free as you were once
Before
When the morning comes around
Will we still be dreamers
Or say it was just a dream
