Bio

Simon Thomas is an engaging young Troubadour beginning his career in solo acoustic mode. Picking up the guitar at aged thirteen he always felt he was a late bloomer, but heralding from the humble Darling Downs, this young guitarist had few distractions to deter him from practicing night and day. Eight years later, Thomas demonstrates quite an impressive grasp of many styles and has slowly started to develop a truly unique sound, one which he can be proud to call his own.

Being influenced by artists such as Jeff Buckley, Damien Rice, Jamie Cullum and Dallas Green, Simon has managed to combine the musical elements he loves most and compliment them with his smooth and rich vocals. He often writes pop songs that are catchy and accessible but retain the originality that is needed to set him apart. His songs are full of subtle complexities, funky grooves and memorable hooks and coupled with his standout guitar playing, Thomas is often compared to John Mayer – which couldn’t be a bad thing!

Currently studying at the Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, the twenty year old is dedicated to honing his song-writing skills and musicianship. Alongside that, he performs regularly across South-East Queensland and is gradually building a fan base. Thomas has also recorded a debut EP with encouraging reviews, and he usually sells a handful of these Cd's at every gig he plays at! You just have to take a look at the comments on his Facebook page to see what the fans are saying about Simon Thomas…

“I must say, your music is like butter to my bread”
“You’re a one of a kind songwriter, it’s amazing!”
“You have a beautiful sound; I think you have a huge future ahead of you”
“Chuck Norris once went to one of Simon's gigs”

Along the way he has won first prize in the acoustic section of the Eidican Battle of the Bands in 2006 as well as making the top 25 in the 2007 Qsong competition. He has already attracted some industry attention, selected to work with Al Buchan the director of fRETfEST. Buchan says "Simon Thomas is one of the most impressive new singer songwriters I have auditioned!”
The next six months look bright for Simon Thomas with a brand new EP scheduled for release in January 2012 as well as several appearances with fRETfEST at both the Woodford Folk Festival and the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Check him out at a gig, real soon!
