"SIMPL3JACK"

Simpl3jack - Simpl3jack (Independently released CD, Rock/pop)
We want to state right off the bat that we had already decided to cover this album before we realized that the guys in the band are only 13 years old. As such, when we realized how young the band members were we were rather taken by surprise...considering the tight cool sound of the tunes on this self-titled album. What is most appealing about this album is the direct spontaneous sound of the songs. There is a freshness to these recordings that reminds us of some of the early punk bands from the 1970s when there was some renewed excitement in the world of underground music. Simpl3jack is the trio comprised of Cole Apperson, Ryan Kendall, and Wyatt Cemak. These three guys obviously love making music--you can tell from the bright audio spark present in these tracks. This is a short album that clocks in at just over 30 minutes...but each and every cut has something substantial to offer. Killer songs include "O-Ren," "At War With the Cherubs," "No Cojones," and "Mae Fong." - Baby Sue

"The Unsigned Experience 2 - SIMPL3JACK"

This week, an interview with a very different band. They are a Sacramento punk band that have played the Friday Night Concert in the Park Series a number of times, have already gathered a good sized following, and...they're not even in high school yet.

"Sacramento hosts TEDx to celebrate youth"

The night ended with a finale by the guys of Simple Jack, all under age 14, who blew the audience away with an energized and surprisingly awesome performance.
“Keep it real,” said Simple Jack’s Cole Aperson, 14. “You know like if you play an instrument you can put it to more use and join a band with your friends, or you can do it by yourself. It doesn’t really matter. It’s just sort of fun.”

""Kepiland" kicked off Concerts in the Park"

Friday marked the day many local musicians and fans had been waiting for: the first show of the 2010 Concerts in the Park series.
The 15-week-long summer event takes place annually at Cesar Chavez Plaza at 5 p.m. every Friday. It is free and all-ages. There are also booths complete with henna tattoos and food to purchase, and a beer garden for those 21 and up.
This year, 31 bands will take the stage. Friday, four of those bands showed the crowd what they were made of, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. The four bands were SIMPL3JACK, Dog Party, The Kelps and Kepi Ghoulie.
Alternative punk rock band SIMPL3JACK kicked off the series by opening the show. All the age of 12, the all-male trio didn't show any hesitation running out on stage. They knew their places and knew what they were doing. The audience started supporting them right away; the cheers and whistles started halfway through the first song. Lead vocalist and guitarist Cole Apperson even ended it with a guitar riff that ended with him laying on his back. The attire was definitely thought-out and they meant business. Bassist Ryan Kendell wore a worn-out dirt bike helmet. Apperson had on a black leather jacket, complete with at least 15 pieces of "flare." SIMPL3JACK played a song called "Terrance is an Alien" toward the end of the set. Terrance is Dog Party's pet pug from which Dog Party derived its name. SIMPL3JACK left the audience craving more.

"'Shakey' ground: Local artists pay tribute to Neil Young"

Here’s a question for you: How many 13 year old kids can go to school on Monday and tell their friends that they got to hang out in a bar on Saturday night? The three dudes from Simpl3Jack can (if they have a problem scoring dates for the dance, there’s something really wrong with the world). There may have been some grumbling about them turning Neil tunes like “My My, Hey Hey” into bar chord amp rompers, but you can’t get mad at a kid who is younger than Neil was when he contracted polio that can handle a Les Paul like that.
Did you ever have anything that cool for show-and-tell? Didn’t think so.
