"Simply Complex Opens for the B52's"

'Simply Complex' to open for 'B-52s,' Tuesday, June 15 at San Diego County Fair

Simply Complex, one of San Diego’s hottest bands, will open for the greatest party band of all time, The B-52's, on Tuesday, June 15, at the San Diego County Fair Grandstand Stage, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The performances by both bands are free with Fair admission.

Simply Complex is a five-piece alternative rock band, whose music has been influenced by several rock and roll groups; and whose musical style, has been described as, simply complex.

With the release of their self-titled CD, released on March 29th 2003, the band’s popularity has risen dramatically and the performers, as a whole, have evolved.

The Band has focused on improving their stage performances which has earned them notoriety and respect among local musical peers in San Diego.

“Each and every one of us had grown enormously as musicians and performers since last year,” said Ean Corbet who plays lead guitar for the band. “The energy that comes off the stage is pretty amazing,” he added.

Simply Complex has performed alongside several artists including Bridget Brigitte, and Danielle Lo Presti of Danielle Lo Presti and the Masses who's "Indie by Design" projects are well known in Los Angeles and San Diego.

Earlier this year Simply Complex recorded two songs with artist, David Warren. One of the songs "Fire" was picked as the title track for the highly acclaimed short movie, "Touched", which was nominated for the Sundance film festival.

"Simply Complex"

Competition among local bands is so fierce that each searches for a different angle. For the quintet Simply Complex, that difference is arrangement, as evidenced on the band's recently released self-titled CD.

Guitarist Ean Corbet wrote five of the nine songs on the album, and collaborated on the others. As with many programs devoted to a single writer, there is a certain familiarity in the standard rock format, but the lyrics are more diverse. Their interest is in the arrangements by Corbet and bassist/vocalist Jennifer McDonald, who co-wrote three of the ballads.

The first number, "Cruel Treatment," is a traditional tale of lost love, marked by Corbet's guitar riffs. It's followed by "Africa," a short but poignant song of longing for a long-ago home. "Lost Without a Trace," about a girl stuck in a dead-end job in a dead-end town.

The mood lightens and the pace quickens in the Corbet/McDonald "Slip Away," then plunges into darkness with "Twilight Zone" and "Don't Cry." "Amberia," by Corbet and Mark Knoll, is a shy guy's dream of love.

"ROCK: Simply Complex, "Simply Complex" (Self-release)"

There are moments on this San Diego alt-rock quintet's debut album when lead singer Rosana Chiurlia sounds tantalizingly like Chrissie Hynde with her best 'tude on. That, coupled with Ean Corbet's consistently strong guitar, bodes well for this 2-year-old band.
