Bio

Sinclair is comprised of Jesse Olswang (drums, vocals), Justin Ancheta (vocals, guitar) and Eric Alonzo (bass), all individually gifted musicians with over 15 years of experience. Sinclairs style ranges from reggae flavored rock to funk and jazz. The bands sound appeals to fans aged 16 to 60, with such diverse influences as Radiohead, RH Factor, Coldplay, Tool and Spearhead. Their music is not afraid to stretch a toe, and even a thigh, over the line and outside the boundaries of any format. Their songs are down to earth and moving; the type of songs you catch yourself singing on the way home and the next day at work.

Throughout 2003 the band toured heavily around the West Coast, was nominated for a Sacramento Area Music Award for best Latin/World band, and won the Sacramento State University Battle of the Bands. They became monthly darlings of Sacramentos premier nightclubs such as Harlows and Marilyns, and acquired a huge spread of dedicated and diverse fans.

The band went back in to the recording studio in 2004 and crafted a unique and free spirited album, releasing it in winter. Thickly layered with groovy hooks and funky rhythms, this new release has been impressing even the most rigid of critics.

A power trio based around the vocals and songcraft of Justin Ancheta, Sinclair eschews the punk and hip-hop edges of Sublime, opting instead for the hard-rock heaviness of Tool, the finger-picked guitar of Paco de Lucia and the funky, jazz-infused drumbeats of Dave Matthews Band percussionist Carter Beauford. What washes ashore is a dynamic whirlpool of roots and dub reggae, Latin rhythms, tight pop songcraft and experimental forays into funk, metal and even psychedelia. While earlier Sinclair offerings found the boys sticking too close to the familiar shorelines, their latest self-titled offering shows a band reaching their creative stride, seamlessly mixing together disparate elements into a whole that flows from song to jam and back again. "Throughout the album Sinclair demonstrates their ability to jump from one style to another like a skater leaping between the lips of a concrete pool. The promise of an explosive live sound crackles beyond the clouds on the aural horizon."- Jake Tenpas, Corvallis, OR Entertainer 2005

Turning heads is nothing new for Sinclair, and they recently caught the attention of Root One Productions, a Sacramento Independent Label and Management company and touring artist Radioactive. They also worked with DIG Music, and have been aggressively touring the West Coast to support their latest release.

Sinclair has since been nominated three years in a row for best world band in the Sammies 2003, 2004, and 2005.

What's New in Sinclair

Sinclair is in the process of creating a diverse fan base by taking it to the streets of San Francisco 7 days a week. Even on days that they have shows in the city, you will find Sinclair working the streets and selling thousands of CDs every month. With a history of A&R Labels watching but with no bites, Sinclair has taken it upon themselves to prove their worthiness in the music business. In the first 3 weeks of being on the streets, Sinclair sold out of their first batch of a thousand CDs! A new CD is on the way as well!
