"Getting Loud at the Library"

HCPL aims for younger audience with first After Hours Rock Show

The Hancock County Public Library is opening its doors after closing time for its first-ever rock
concert.

Friday's After Hours Rock Show
will feature local band Sins of
Alchemy and Indianapolis-based band They've Shot Flanigan. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the bands playing from 7:30 to 9:30.

HCPL Webmaster Kyle Turpin, a Sins of Alchemy guitarist and vocalist, pushed to get rock into the library. It has had many different musical genres represented in concerts - from jazz to German dancers - but never a rock show.

"Looking at concerts in the past, they've all been pretty low key," he said. "I wanted to bring in a new genre, something for the teens."

Turpin worked with teen services librarian Christy Beaver to come up with a plan for the concert.

The kids who come to the library know Turpin and look up to him, Beaver said. "They're excited to see him play," she said.

Headliners They've Shot Flanigan are vocalist Zach Stonerock, guitarist Gabriel Stonerock, bassist Brad Johnson, guitarist Chase Stanley and drummer Derrick Carnes. The band, which claims bands from Jimmy Eat World to Fleetwood Mac as their inspiration, has been together since 2002. "We just play kind of a dark, hard-hitting indie rock," Zach Stonerock said. "We draw from a lot of different influences."

The band took a two-year hiatus, but has been in the recording studio and will release an album titled, "..." August 1.

The After Hours Rock Show·will be the second show the bands will play together. They played a show last Wednesday in Indianapolis.

Sins of Alchemy is comprised of guitarist and vocalist Travis James, Turpin, bassist Ben Feller, drummer Dusty Pettit and keyboard and synthesizer player Ryan Guzman. Turpin described their sound as progressive rock, and listed the bands Led Zeppelin and The Mars Volta among their references.

"We are trying to come up with something new and different," he said.

The library closes at 6 p.m. on Friday, but will reopen its doors at 7 p.m. for the concert, which will be in the Greenfield Banking Company Community Room. The concert is open to teens 13 and older and adults, and is part of the Metamorphosis teen summer reading club schedule of events.

They've Shot Flanigan would be willing to play more shows at the library if Friday's show is a success, Zach Stonerock said. "If anybody's willing to have us back," he said, "we'll play just about anywhere right now" - Daily Reporter - Greenfield, Indiana

"Sins of Alchemy Celebrate New CD Release"

To be completely honest, I had never heard of Sins of Alchemy before writing this article. As
I visited their MySpace, I completely wrote them off as another Indy hardcore band.

However, I was wrong.

The newly released CD is metal all the way through, mixed with some punk rock drive (“So The Sky Does Bleed”), and a splash of rock ballad (“The Prince of Cats”). Though some of the tracks sound slightly underproduced, the guitars are melodic, the singing is clean, and the raw emotion bursts through almost every track. It
reminded me of a heavier version of my old favorite local band (7DFC where are you!?)

Sins of Alchemy, Rowco, and Neverfound will be performing tomorrow at the Melody Inn at 8PM. Look forward to new songs by S.o.A., as their new CD “Onward to Madness” will surely be the highlight of the night. - IndyConcerts.com

"Indianapolis Concerts: The Week's Best Live Music"

Number 9: Plaguesayer with Mungus, and Sins of
Alchemy

Plaguesayer will use this show as a tune-up for atour of
the Midwest, during which they’ll spread their Pantera and
Dimmu Borgir-influenced metal. Mungus brings a more progressive metal sound up from Lousiville, and Sins of Alchemy expands its palette to include influences like Coheed and Cambria and The Mars Volta.

"Sins of Alchemy – Music Review"

Hardcore creativity delivered like a vortex to your cerebral matter. These cats can lay it down with authority. From the first kaleidoscopic mesh of musical synthesis, Sins of Alchemy have put the metal into rock and have packaged it into a sweet candy like flavor of eargasmic pleasure…
No. For real these cats are seriously nice. Vocals are direct and in your face and the hardcore guitar licks with funky Chili Pepperish bass lines are just what the music doctor ordered.

Be sure to check out their unique yet enticing song writing mosaic while they rope you into their fluid groove laden backdrop of metal rock nourishment. Dramatic and over the top intros and big band booming sounds round out their pounding vibe…

Sins of Alchemy are on a musical journey of new age metal and it just feels good!

A 5 piece progressive rock/acid metal concept band hot on the release of their first studio EP, Onward to Madness. They have been likened to The Mars Volta, Coheed and Cambria, Chiodos, Shaolin Death Squad, Brazil, Pink Floyd, and Between the Buried and Me, to name a few. From ethereal melodies to brutal breakdowns, highly experimental theatrical barrages of sound to punchy dance-inducing choruses, Sins of Alchemy provides something completely different, yet oddly familiar to anyone interested in the recent developments of rock music and metal in particular.

Bio

"In a world plagued by uncertainty, religious tirade, and manipulation by unseen forces, we, the Alchemists of Eversmoore, pursued a quest: a journey through the very depths of the human soul to conquer the final frontiers of the human mind and spirit. Our experiments proved much more wildly successful than we could have ever imagined as we became entrapped by our extrication of the greatest mystery of all. These are the sins of our alchemy…"
