Bio
Founded in May of 2012, their style is best described as a unique blend of funk, soul, and rock and roll. They have shared the stage with such popular acts as Flow Tribe, Earphunk, Space Capone, and The Steepwater Band.
The four-piece band was formed by former Mooring Line frontman Keatzi Gunmoney, and keyboardist Phill Thompson. After the dissolution of The Mooring Line in early 2012, Gunmoney and Thompson immediately began working on original material, and recruited Old Memphis Kings guitarist “Crawlin” Caleb Childs to collaborate in the writing process. After the addition of former ATM Soundcrisis drummer Mark Threet, the group began playing live shows in Starkville just two weeks after formation.
Sipsy Fires has been heard on such local radio stations as Mississippi University for Women’s 88.5 fm, as well as the popular 99.9 The Fox. In August, 2012 they were featured in the Hodgepodge benefit music festival and accompanying album release alongside such noteworthy acts as Flathead Ford and The Jarheads. Their four song demo cd, titled “Brushsmoke”, received positive feedback, and an independently produced full length album has been recorded at Boardtown Records and is expected to be released in 2013.
With their high energy live shows, crowd interaction, and pronounced eccentricities, Sipsy Fires is fast becoming a staple in the live music scene in Starkville, as well as much of the surrounding area in north Mississippi and Alabama.
