The best kept secret in music

"Sister Funk CD Review 07/01/02"

Sister Funk have not only found the groove. They have mastered the groove and call it their own. Eleven tracks of multi-genre, lively, fun music. Sister Funk is wonderfully described on their website as: "Sister Funk, a five piece all female band, plays phat, funky, R-n-B, original dance music. These women create a mutha of a groove which can not be denied. And, these girls just wanna have fun!" And they make the fun contagious.

Make no mistake this is music which creates movement. Spirited, thought provoking, cheeky, captivating, and did I say fun! "Pursuit Of The Groove" begins strong with "Truth Will Set You Free" and the standard is never lowered. Tempos change, rhythms evolve, and you are on a wonderful music adventure. Mood changes as in "Holding Out" keep the pace exciting and fresh. "Mr. Bush Man" with a somewhat jazzy feel has attitude and more. Ending with "Sister Funk" an upbeat, very danceable, flawless signature piece. And I like it!

Vocal skills, harmonies, instrumentation, and production all blend seamlessly to create a wonderful tapestry of Sister Funk Talent. This band delivers. The whole package, and its all good. With style, a unique sound, and lots of energy this is music for the people. All people. A great addition to any collection, a MUST in any respectable GLBTI collection. However, no reason is necessary other than the musical pleasure Sister Funk will deliver - StoneWall Society (Review by Len)

Feeling a bit camera shy

According to GONYC Magazine, Sister Funk is one of the Top 12 Artists to look out for in 2004!

2000 was a year of creative synergy. The musical goddess was on a mission and with the help of a NY producer the all female band SISTER FUNK emerged. Denise Troy-vocals & keyboards, Kristina Jean-vocals & sax, Vange Durst-vocals & guitar, Wendy Simmons-Taylor-vocals & bass & Amy Blaze-drums & percussion were united in mind & spirit to create the undeniable SISTER FUNK sound. In 2004, with the evolution of Sister Funk Diane Davis-the funkified 6-string bass player was initiated into this powerhouse project~

music should be!" - Suzanne Westenhoffer –Comedian/Actress

On September 1, 2001, SISTER FUNK released their self-produced, independent CD entitled, "Pursuit of the Groove”. This CD takes you on a musical roller coaster with sounds and styles that propel you in every musical direction: pop, rock, blues, and funk. “Pursuit” coined the term eclectic. Sister Funk’s 2003 release, “Girl”, has a more polished, rock-edge feel, laden with even more melodic harmonies, a heavy backbeat and that familiar upbeat Sister Funk style. “Girl” delivers a taste of the past with a modern day flare; it’s music for the masses.

“Pursuit of the Groove” is an incredible CD and the musical range is amazing”
- Chris Allen-IMRU Radio (Los Angeles, CA)

“They’re tight, they’re passionate and they know how to use the funk...An album that is solid enough to get them more than just the usual gig” - Fran Fried - New Haven Register (CT)

It’s a combination of their fresh sound and their amazing ability to entertain that has created their devote national fan base. Their performances are upbeat and energized and leave you wanting more.
