Sister Kate

Sister Kate

BandFolk

Sister Kate will have you up dancing faster than you can say "shake it like a bowl of jelly on a plate." A unique fusion of bluegrass, western swing, folk, ragtime and cabaret, Sister Kate wows audiences with clever arrangements, solid grooves, rich harmonies and down-to-earth charm.

Biography

Sister Kate came together in the summer of 2007 when cousins Tricia and Betsy and their friend Greg were in Antigonish for the summer. We had a number of 'impromptu' jam sessions and shows, and eventually started performing with Greg's brother Brendan on drums. At the end of the summer, everyone went their separate ways to work, study, etc. However, a 'fortunate accident' landed us all in Antigonish again the following summer, and Sister Kate was born! The name 'Sister Kate' comes from the title of a 1920s song by Clarence Williams and Armand Piron, one of the first covers we ever performed together.
