"Sister Lip Thanks for the Mondays EP"

There is no doubt that Sister Lip are quite a force to be reckoned with and last month they finally presented the world with their first studio EP, setting it all off with an amazing two-day release show held at the Sail Inn. The title Thanks for the Mondays is a sweet send off to the now defunct Long Wong’s where they held a long-standing residency on Monday nights. The EP is every bit as impressive as the live shows that they crafted and cultivated across that very residency. It also plays out much like their set list, designed to keep you enthralled the entire time.
Here we have four amazing women with Cassidy Hilgers delivering her sultry jazz-meets-soul-meets-rock vocals, harmonies and keys from Jenny Rebecca, Ariel Monet fiercely pounding out Neanderthal-like drums, and Emily Schalick keeping the entire groove together with her amazing bass. Thie EP also plays out like their “Greatest Hits” from the sets they have been stunning audiences with for over the last year and a half. It literally has every song that you danced your ass off at Wong’s or Sail Inn or anywhere else you got to see them. And it also happens to be downright sexy.
The mix here is amazing, Rebecca’s talent with the keys truly shine, as well as Hilgers’ seductive vocals and electrically charged lyrics. There is not a dull track in the set. From the opener of “Sue” to “Sex Song”, “Bedhead” and “Hello Sir”, the entire thing is amazing. Live favorite “Mr. Sticky” is just as invigorating on the record. Their cover of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins “I Put a Spell on You” is actually better on the record than live. And the finale “Pure Honey” is simply inspired. - Java Magazine

Bio

Sister Lip's sound was born on the stages of Arizona in 2012, the same stages where the four lovely ladies continued to hone their skills with almost-daily shows. Each dynamic member is continually learning and growing every day. The girls draw on a wide variety of influences, and it shows. A unique blend of scat-filled, sexy smooth vocals, interesting tempo changes, a little bit of improvisation, and a whole lot of rocking have catapulted the ladies of Sister Lip into a quickly-paced and successful beginning.

So far Cassidy (vocals, guitar), Ariel (drums), Jenny (piano, backing vocals), and Emily (bass, backing vocals) can tell of some life-changing experiences together. Behind them in this time they have an acoustic promotional tour across the U.S. & Canada, an appearance at the unofficial SXSW, a debut studio EP (with a banging debut release party in tow), and numerous live tracks and videos. Most recently, they are wrapping up their first full-band tour: a two-and-a-half month nationwide adventure across 42 cities. The "Four Girls One Truck Tour" will wrap up in September with a live release of some of the shows from their travels.

Sister Lip is a lot of things. Sultry, talented, riveting, interesting...the list goes on. Wherever Cassidy sings, heads turn and faces appear, mesmerized. Where Ariel and Emily's rhythm section rumbles, no foot stands still. Where Jenny's keys speak, people speak back. And one things is for sure...these four passionate women are not nearly through.
