Progressive Pop/Rock with high energy songs and instrumentals. "Among the best." -- Dave Wilson, Promoter, Istanbul. "Impressive." -- Performer Magazine.

Biography

From a packed club room in Istanbul; to a marble courtyard in an ancient city near the Mediterranean Sea; to a city park with a sprawling sea of 40,000 souls; the Steve Kercher Band's original, Progessive Pop-Rock music has been celebrated.

Performer Magazine, a leading independent music fanzine, printed, “Steve Kercher's clear, punchy voice skips through with ease and finesse. Kercher's ability to express himself can certainly handle the attention. Even more impressive are the actual songs.”

Concert promoters have praised the band's performances: “Of the many bands we have hosted, the Steve Kercher Band is among the best,” wrote Dave Wilson, a concert promoter working in Asia and North Africa. David Hirschberg, Director of the Walk-for-Hunger, America's largest charity walk expressed, “Kercher's band performed for more than 40,000 and was well received by a diverse audience.”

During the end of July, 2006 SKB returned to Turkey for a two and half weeks tour which included performances in Istanbul, Selcuk, Antakia and other towns and cities. The tour became what Kercher is now calling the Peace & Hope Tour as the songs and anecdotes focused on a message of peace and reconciliation as the war in the Middle East was being waged. The message was enthusiastically embraced by an audience made up of vacationers from around the region including those from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria and parts of Europe.

As the lead songwriter, Steve Kercher finds inspiration for many of his songs from literature and history. For instance, the song, The Friend of Africa, co-written by Historian and Author, Kevin Belmonte, is based on the life of William Wilberforce, the nineteenth century British abolitionist who successfully brought an end to slavery in the United Kingdom. Walden Media, the producer's of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, is currently producing a film based on Wilberforce's life. Mr. Belmonte is the historical consultant to the film makers.
Kercher's song, As Time Passes Away, based on Psalm 90, and his instrumental composition, Maiden Voyage, featuring fiddler, Jake Armerding, were recently among top honored songs at the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. Maiden Voyage was recently licensed to the producers of PBS's Roadtrip Nation for the 2006 television season.

Kercher is planning on bringing the Peace & Hope Tour to other areas around the world in 2007 including the United States, Asia and Africa. He currently is negotiating a publishing agreement with Bigin Music of China which would distribute the band's music throughout China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Kill Them With Kindness

Written By: Steve Kercher

We're up against the wrath of many foes
At every turn their tongues are sharp as spears
Take up the gauntlet
But if we fight they’ll surely run us through

We can’t run and we can’t always hide
Retreat only intensifies the fear
If we want victory
Listen well this is what we’ll do

Kill them with kindness
Kill them with kindness
Kill them with kindness

It may be a people across the seas
Or be demons in the mirror
It doesn’t matter who they are
Love can conquer hearts that are cruel

Kill them with kindness
Kill them with kindness
Tilt with non-violence
Kill them with kindness

A sweet tune tames the cobra
A kind word to an enemy
Is pouring coals of fire on his head

Relight the Fire

Written By: Steve Kercher

I know you’ve lost your vision
And you can’t choose your way
Don’t let indecision keep you from seizing the day
Sometimes the torch you carry is so dim
It’s then you must rekindle the embers again

Relight the fire that burned
Don’t let desire turn from the flame
That guides it in many ways
Relight the fire that burned
Don’t let the mire immerse and destroy
The power, the passion, the joy

The blue heat and the hammer
Serves a craftsman’s hands
Iron sharpens iron – a man sharpens a man
The spark of courage found in the words of a friend’s reply
Can move us toward our intended design

Relight the fire that burned
Don’t let desire turn from the flame
That guides it in many ways
Relight the fire that burned
Don’t let the mire immerse and destroy
The power, the passion, the joy

Open Wide

Written By: Steve Kercher

Wake up at the break of dawn
To feel the sun enrich your spirit’s cup
It overflows the morning rim --
Spills out to fill the day

Another chance to see
Another chance to hear the music
Let the light and chords touch your soul

Open wide
And the sights will take control
Open wide
And sounds will make you whole
Open wide
Open yourself as a child

The hills and valleys sing their song
Trees rock and sway as it’s sung
One scene performed in the wind
All creatures join the praise

Another dance in the field
Another chance to move to the music
Let the flight of your heart carry you home

Open wide
And the sights will take control
Open wide
And sounds will make you whole
Open wide
Open yourself as a child

There’s a river of life running to your heart from mine
Let the waters rush to fill and cleanse your mind
Open wide

Fly Higher

Written By: Steve Kercher

A crying eagle rises up
Soars above the world
Eyes ablaze with one focus
Mighty wings unfurled

It climbs among the mountain’s majesty
Calls the chosen from its shining peak

Fly higher
Spread your wings and soar above the crowd
Soar higher
And over mediocrity on the ground
The heart of your desire
The excellence you seek
May it keep you ever inspired
Dare to expand your reach
Fly higher

Let the winds of wisdom and love
Support the wings of your heart
Rely on heaven’s host
To lift toward the mark

Sail skies of possibility
Risk, rise above, and expand your reach

Fly higher
Spread your wings and soar above the crowd
Soar higher
And over mediocrity on the ground
The heart of your desire
The excellence you seek
May it keep you ever inspired
Dare to expand your reach
Fly higher

As Time Passes Away

Written By: Steve Kercher

From dust to dust you return man to the earth
You sweep us away in the sleep of death
We’re like morning grass springing up new
Then the evening comes and we’re withered and dry

Consumed by your anger we fear your indignation
Relent O Lord, have mercy on our souls

As time passes away
Help us number our days aright
As time passes away
Establish in us the work of our hands
And discernment for life

When the morning comes give us unfailing love
Let us sing for joy all of our days
Make us glad for all the times we’ve suffered loss
May your deeds be shown to every child

You have been our dwelling place throughout the generations
May your favor rest upon us Lord

As time passes away
Help us number our days aright
As time passes away
Establish in us the work of our hands
And discernment for life
