“Steve Kercher’s clear, punchy voice skips through with ease and finesse. Kercher’s ability to express himself can certainly handle the attention. Even more impressive are the actual songs.” - Performer Magazine

Bio

From a packed club room in Istanbul; to a marble courtyard in an ancient city near the Mediterranean Sea; to a city park with a sprawling sea of 40,000 souls; the Steve Kercher Band's original, Progessive Pop-Rock music has been celebrated.

Performer Magazine, a leading independent music fanzine, printed, “Steve Kercher's clear, punchy voice skips through with ease and finesse. Kercher's ability to express himself can certainly handle the attention. Even more impressive are the actual songs.”

Concert promoters have praised the band's performances: “Of the many bands we have hosted, the Steve Kercher Band is among the best,” wrote Dave Wilson, a concert promoter working in Asia and North Africa. David Hirschberg, Director of the Walk-for-Hunger, America's largest charity walk expressed, “Kercher's band performed for more than 40,000 and was well received by a diverse audience.”

During the end of July, 2006 SKB returned to Turkey for a two and half weeks tour which included performances in Istanbul, Selcuk, Antakia and other towns and cities. The tour became what Kercher is now calling the Peace & Hope Tour as the songs and anecdotes focused on a message of peace and reconciliation as the war in the Middle East was being waged. The message was enthusiastically embraced by an audience made up of vacationers from around the region including those from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria and parts of Europe.

As the lead songwriter, Steve Kercher finds inspiration for many of his songs from literature and history. For instance, the song, The Friend of Africa, co-written by Historian and Author, Kevin Belmonte, is based on the life of William Wilberforce, the nineteenth century British abolitionist who successfully brought an end to slavery in the United Kingdom. Walden Media, the producer's of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, is currently producing a film based on Wilberforce's life. Mr. Belmonte is the historical consultant to the film makers.
Kercher's song, As Time Passes Away, based on Psalm 90, and his instrumental composition, Maiden Voyage, featuring fiddler, Jake Armerding, were recently among top honored songs at the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. Maiden Voyage was recently licensed to the producers of PBS's Roadtrip Nation for the 2006 television season.

Kercher is planning on bringing the Peace & Hope Tour to other areas around the world in 2007 including the United States, Asia and Africa. He currently is negotiating a publishing agreement with Bigin Music of China which would distribute the band's music throughout China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
