BandWorldCeltic

One of the nation's premier Irish-American bands, Skelpin' (Gaelic for "slap"), has been known to drive audiences to uncontrollable bouts of foot twitching and hand clapping. Skelpin' performs Irish music fused with the passion of Spain, rhythms of the Middle East, and American romantic soul

Biography

Skelpin began when some talented musicians representing different parts of the world came together to jam one night in an Irish Pub and decide they liked what they heard. When these people from Ireland, Mexico, Tiawan and the USA put their musical musings together, they knew they had something special.

Skelpin is fast becoming one of the nation's most exciting world beat bands,Skelpin takes traditional tunes and songs and rearranges them with a twist, while also creating their own energetic original music. Skelpin, plays lyrical Irish music fused with the passions of Spain, rhythms of the Far East and Latin America, with a good amount of American romantic soul.

Skelpin plays regularly all over Southern California as well as venues internationally from Tokyo to Tijuana. Skelpin has shared the stage with Flogging Molly, Solas, Lunasa, Seven Nations, and The Fenians to name a few.

Tim Foley leads the band vocally while banging rhythms on the guitar. He adds to the world fusion flavor on bodhran (boor-on: an Irish goatskin drum), Uilleann (ill-E-uhn) pipes, Saxophone, whistle and mandolin.

As the group's acknowledged "wild Irish rose," fiddler/singer Patric Petrie sets the pace for the group with her driving, lyrical fiddling and evocative singing.

Enrique Platas brings a world beat flavor and lays the rhythmic foundation to the music with his amazing percussion skills and mixes it up with his never ending supply of drums. Featuring the cajon, dumbek and bongos.

Jimmy Patton, Guitarmageddon’s 2001 "Best Unsigned Guitarist in the Nation" excites the crowd with his amazing skills on lead guitar, playing flamenco, gypsy, jazz and celtic styles throughout.

Wes brings a modern American twist on his Les Paul Guitar and Fender Bass.

Recently, Skelpin is often joined by button accordion and concertina player Matt Hensley of Flogging Molly, who appears on the new album “Trip to Skye”

The View

Written By: Tim Foley/Skelpin

Lai, Lai, Lai, Lai, Lai

Will I ever get it right
So in this sunlight I wait
Hoping for graces, praying for changes
Oh, how'd I make this
The view, it's just my sight

and so I sing
Lai, Lai, Lai, Lai, Lai

Will we ever get it right
So in this sunlight we wait
Hoping for graces, Look at our faces
God, who can change us?
The view it's just our sight

Better days will come
The clouds will part and you'll see your broken one
There we will be and we'll feel so free
And you'll smile on me
The haze will lift and our view will all be right

Lai, Lai, Lai, Lai, Lai

The Journey

Written By: Tim Foley

The Journey

(As Gaeilge/In Irish Gaeilc)
Siúl, ní mór, ní mór dúinn siúl,
Sé an t-aistear an freagra,
Níl deireadh go deo leis an turas.
Siúl, ní mór, dúinn siúl,

(Translation in English)
Walk; we must, we must keep walking.
The answer’s in the journey
The journey, it never ends
And so, and so, we must keep walking

Siúil, siúil leat…

Ooo, ochon o…

Siúl, leanaimis orainn ag siúl, ag siúl

The Profit

Written By: Tim Foley

Ooh…

Our prosperity leads to unclarity
We forgot our history
Are the hills still green?
Or burned by wealth and money?
We’ve lost our identity

Ooh…

And the future it may not be
As bountiful as it seems
Don’t throw the past to the sea
And the future it may not be
As bountiful as it seems
Don’t throw the past to the sea
Yeah don’t turn your back on me

Your prosperity leads to your unclarity
You’ve lost your identity
Is your mind still clean?
And where is your family?
You’ve run from your history

Ooh..

And the future it may not be
As bountiful as it seems
Don’t throw the past to the sea
And the future it may not be
As bountiful as it seems
Don’t throw the past to the sea
Yeah don’t turn your back on me

And the future it may not be
As bountiful as it seems
Don’t throw the past to the sea
And the future it may not be
As bountiful as it seems
Don’t throw good things to the sea
Don’t turn your back on me
Yeah don’t turn your back on me

Walls Of My Heart

Written By: Tim Foley

Marci’s house was just a little place on a small lake
Not much different than the one next door
There wasn’t much there that anybody would want to take
But I swear her walls were full of gold

And those walls, those walls are empty now
Nothing remains the same
And those walls, those walls are crying out
Crying out her name
Oh the walls of my heart are crying out her name

Oh the winter came, and it would lock you up inside
And she didn’t have much to say those days
But now she’s free as the cold wind blowing off the sea
And those walls can’t hold her back anymore

And those walls, those walls are empty now
Nothing remains the same
And those walls, those walls are crying out
Crying out her name
Oh the walls of my heart are crying out her name

Time goes by and you don’t even know what you had
Until it’s gone from your eyes
But the memory lives on in my mind
And I listen and try and cove up my hearts cries

And those walls, those walls are empty now
Nothing remains the same
And those walls, those walls are crying out
Crying out her name
Oh the walls of my heart are crying out her name

Marci’s house is just a little more quiet than it was before
And I know I can’t walk through those doors again
I can see us standing there
Our laughter stings my ears
And the ghosts there are too strong, they’re too strong

And those walls, those walls are empty now
Nothing remains the same
And those walls, those walls are crying out
Crying out her name
Oh the walls of my heart are crying out
Oh the walls of my heart are crying out
Oh the walls of my heart are crying out her name
