"Skepsis releases first full-length album"

Skepsis, a local band that needs no introduction to Billings students, is beginning to make a significant mark on the music scene with every move they make. They just released their first full-length album, an 11 track, self-titled CD, on May 8th, 2010.
For a debut album, Skepsis' sound is very developed. Over the years, the band has taken on a mature sound that has many layers and deep lyrics to match. Lyrical credits go to front man Collin Steinz, whose themes are drawn from life experiences that he and the rest of the band have had to go through over the years.
Music credit goes to the entire band, which has produced an album with many surprises. "Skepsis" is a unique and varied album that manages to explore every aspect of the band members' musical talents. To point out a few personal favorites, "Of Disguises" really hits home in all the right places with a killer riff and meaningful lyrics, while "Prelude to the Waltz" shines with touching lyrics and a great chorus.
There are a lot of things to hear within this album; whether it's the heavy guitar hitter "Mountain Air" or Nicholas Dobroruka's epic piano intro in "Schiriditch", fans of alternative rock will get something out of this disc and new fans of the genre will get a great introduction as to what to expect from this band.
In terms of production, Skepsis hits areas while missing in others. Being a debut album from a group not signed to a professional record label, however, makes minor flaws forgivable. To point out some of the strong points, the quality of Collin Steinz's vocals are top-notch, and Donovan Layne's drums have a great kick to them. On the con side, Alex (Sash) Dobroruka and Jarrett Butler's guitars could be louder and more present in order to enrich the sound, and the general volume of the album could be cranked a little. But for a first, it's pretty darn good.
To draw a simple conclusion, Skepsis is going places. The amount of work that was put into this album is exceptional for a debut CD, and it shows just how dedicated this band is to doing what they love. The band has a lot to be proud of, as they've dodged a lot of obstacles that hinder most other local bands' recordings. They remain one of the most unique bands around. Don't just take my word for it; visit www.myspace,com/skepsismtl to find out how to get yourself a copy of this worthy CD.

Formed in the suburbs of Montreal in late 2007, Skepsis came onto the Montreal music scene with an impressive, original sound. The blend of indie, punk, metal and pop formed a unique alternative sound. Skepsis was created by the five members; Collin Steinz on lead vocals and bass, Jarrett Butler and Sash Dobroruka on guitar and backing vocals, Niki Dobroruka on piano, and Donovan Layne on drums, who had all met in high school and college.

After playing over fifteen live shows in their hometown and downtown Montreal in the first eight months of their existence, Skepsis decided to record their first E.P. The E.P. ‘Play the Plague’ was released in September of 2008 to a hometown crowd exceeding over 200 people. The E.P. then gave them the opportunity to play bigger and better shows. In the following months they were able to get the opening spots for Everlea (GlassNote Records), These Silhouettes (Underground Operations), Laurel (Torque Records), and Abandon All Ships! (Rise/Velocity Records (U.S.A.), Underground Operations (CAN)). They also got the chance to play in the U.S., which included several shows in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, as well as headlining a Montreal show with Extensive Enterprises who have also bands such as August Burns Red, Coheed in Cambria, Thursday, A Day to Remember, and many more. Skepsis has sold over 700 copies of the ‘Play the Plague’ E.P to date.

May 8th, 2010 saw the release of Skepsis’ first full length, self-titled album. The album was released in downtown Montreal to a crowd of over 250 people. The launch proved successful, for they sold just over 100 copies of the album. In the first month they reached 200 copies sold.

Skepsis is now touring Canada full time and currently on an across Canada Winter tour [Feb 15 - April 1]. You can view their past tour dates on their facebook and myspace pages.
