"Nashville Star Auditions"

Jackie Skinner, and her sister Breya were excited after getting though their audition and winning another chance to impress the judges as they speak to Nashville Star cameraman Clay Wolflick at Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville Friday, March 21, 2008. - Sandford Myers

"Sisters have Nashville Stars in their eyes"

Erin Mills musicians Breya and Jackie Skinner had pretty much the same reaction when they found out they'd been invited to audition for the NBC reality television program, Nashville Star.
"It went like this," said Breya, before letting out an excited, elated and extended scream. "It was funny," she continued."I was in my car when I got the call on my cell phone. It was a weird area code, and by this point, I had totally forgot about (audi-tioning for) the show. I answered the phone and the guy on the other end told me he had watched our (audition) video and he thought it was fabulous. He told us he wasn't sure if Canadians were eligible, but if they were, could we come down."After making a couple of excit-ed phone calls to friends and family, Breya heard back from the casting agent, letting her know that she and her sister could come to Nashville in March to audition for show producers and network executives. So the girls, along with their manager and father, Bob, mother and brother made the trek south."I was thinking ,'this is the longest 15-hour drive for 30 seconds (of audition time),' but it was so worth it," said Breya. The sisters were selected from more than 30,000 applicants to participate in one of four regional finals held across the United States. On the first day, the sisters were joined by about 7,000 other performers hoping to catch the eye of producers and earn a call-back. The girls were given 30 seconds to perform the Sara Evans' song, Suds in the Bucket, but managed to impress the judges enough to allow them to perform for more than a full minute."When they asked us to come back the next day, Breya just ran out of the room (in excitement)," said Jackie, 26."The fact we got past like 7,000 people and 30,000 applications is unbelievable," said Breya, 28. "I don't think I'll feel a rush like that again. "Breya has a hearing impair-ment that renders her unable to hear high frequencies. She wears hearing aids, but that hasn't stopped her from hitting all the notes when singing. The program is expected to take place this summer, with the winner having a single written for them by John Rich, of country duo Big & Rich. - Chris Clay - Mississauga News

Bio

SKINNER is no stranger to the stage. Starting from a very young age, Breya (30) and Jackie Skinner (27) have been honing their 'sister act' for over a decade.

From humble beginnings on the Big Top Talent Show to opening for Treble Charger as teenagers, the girls have become known for their fun loving personalities both on, and off the stage.

NBC producers recently recognized SKINNER’s unique sound; the girls’ were personally invited to Nashville to participate in NBC’s Nashville Star talent competition.

Harmony is the key element that brings SKINNER to life. From catchy up-beat tunes to heart-warming ballads Breya and Jackie show diversified vocal talent and song-writing skills. The girls bring a light hearted vibe to the stage and showcase a unique sound which they describe as 'Tattoos and Tamborines'.

What makes the harmonic overtone inspiring is the fact that Breya is significantly hearing impaired. The sisters work together to overcome this challenge, creating a powerful and dynamic experience.

They ignite the stage with Jackie’s melodic guitar licks and cool style of play while Breya captivates an audience with the energy and sincerity of a seasoned, up-front performer. SKINNER is accompanied by Dan Pirrie on bass, Mark Ansara on drums and Jeff Takahashi on keyboard.

Their collection of original songs appeal to a wide variety of listeners. As such, the girls have attracted a loyal fan base.

After many years of polishing their sound, Breya and Jackie are extremely excited about the launch of their self-titled first album, recently released on iTunes.

SKINNER uses their talent to support various charities. A personal connection to Alzheimer’s has motivated the girls to donate one dollar from every album sold to the cause.

With a natural born love for being on stage, Breya and Jackie get just as much out of every performance as they give. The energy is catchy, so come prepared.
