Bio

A collective of songwriters from the Illinois countryside, Skip Kanosky creates music as diverse as the city to the north, yet organic as the fields that surround them. With incredible chemistry, the group continuously trade off vocal and instrumental parts to craft emotionally-driven songs that make a real impression. Each member switches between guitars, drums, bass and keyboards, creating a lineup that is constantly changing and a live show that is never the same twice. Also having three of four members as brothers, Skip Kanosky is a band whom are it for the long haul. Formed in 2006, they’ve built an impressive repertoire of different sounds and styles, just brimming with depth and substance.

Skip Kanosky draws from an expansive landscape of influences, from the most mainstream of pop to the most obscure of independent artists. To describe the overall sound, one might imagine the pop rock sensibilities of such acts as Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab for Cutie, Phoenix and The National, crossed with the alternative power of Pearl Jam, Appleseed Cast or Explosions in the Sky, the raw emotion of Sunny Day Real Estate and Damien Rice, the indie rock elements of Logh, Last Days of April and The Notwist, plus a touch of Beck, with his explorative tendencies. Combine Skip’s ambivalence for straightforward, solid rock songs and extensive, experimental space-jams with their indie rock spirit and close-knit sense of community, and you may just have the answer to Broken Social Scene.

Skip Kanosky plays to an extensive and eclectic crowd with interests ranging from mainstream alternative to underground indie rock. They’ve been applauded from the basements of house parties in the countryside, from rec centers of college universities, to studios, apartments and dive bars in the downtowns of major cities. And with the upcoming release of their new EP, The Acme of Fashion, the momentum is sure to continue, slated for release in Fall, 2009.
