Bio

Skip Moses are a Belfast-based new-folk collective fronted by the irrepressible Jonny Black. Their musical influence sweeps from Southern Appalachia to the East bank of Belfast - a time-traveling show of bluegrass, alternative rock and political protest.

Black cultivates well-worn stories of the local eccentric, the trainee psychopath, and imagines them at their worst. Like the kid who survived a house fire but was fused onto a synthetic settee. "He pictures the scenes in some old dive bar and expands them into a horrendous vision to out-brutalise Brueghel." (Stuart Bailie - BBC Radio Ulster)

On Skip Moses' debut long player (set for release on respected Irish Indie Smalltown America early 2011) original cuts segue seamlessly into reimagined versions of Jim O'Rourke, Elizabeth Cotton and Woody Guthrie classics with sumptuous ease - tracing the lines of a century of musical commonality.

Graceful and epic, understated and powerful - Skip Moses' music reminds us of simpler times and greater truths.
