"Sharon Tyres of Northam, reaches semi final of songwriting competition"

A NORTHAM woman has got four of her songs into the UK National Songwriting Competition.
Four out of six songs Sharon Tyres entered, got picked as semi-finalists in the competition, organised by the Brit Trust of Brit Awards fame to encourage and promote the art of songwriting.
The Journal's editorial assistant, Jo Feesey from Barnstaple, also got to the semi-final with her song To Let in the adult contemporary category.
The competition, which has been running since 2002, saw more than 6,200 entries.
Sharon is a supporter of the Bubbly Group, a charity based in Northam trying to raise £1.8 million for a facility for people with learning disabilities in Torridge.
Some of her entries were songs she had written for the charity such as Blow a Bubble for Bubbly Today and Dis the Dis.
Her other songs The Mermaid of Appledore made it to the semi-final of the open category and Let's be One Voice in the Christian faith.
Sharon is hoping that her Bubbly songs could be recorded and sold in aid of the charity.
She said: "It would be great to organise the recording of the songs but I am no singer.
"I have also written The Bubbly Song and just need a singer — it's got a country feel to it. I've also written Step into my World (Tom's song), which is all about stepping into the world of those with special needs and disabilities for a change."
Celebrity music guru, Simon Cowell, signed the previous competition winner Natalie Chua, to be part of the best selling group Angelis, which led to her being presented with a Platinum album.
