Here's the skinny: Skout is a New York-based indie-folk singer songwriter best known for her percussive and intricate acoustic guitar riffs and her upbeat, addictive melodies. Recently relocated to New York City from North Carolina, Skout's finishing up her debut E.P. with Brooklyns own Mason Jar Music (Andrew Bird, Feist) and has her sights set on a breakthrough 2014.

Here's the real story: Music had a hold on me from as early on as I can remember. If the radio wasnt on in our house, a James Taylor tape always was. Music was an undeniable part of my upbringing, and I remember percussion and beats resonating particularly strongly with my young self. I begged my parents for a drum set incessantly. They settled on a guitar, assuming it would make for a quieter practice regiment. While they were right on the noise front, anyone who's seen a live show of mine can tell you, percussion still serves as the spine of my acoustic performances.

I spent my high school and college years searching for a definitive sound. A sound that was truly my own. By age 20, I settled on the Skout, a project with folky-roots but a distinctly modern sound. The name Skout stems from the book "To Kill a Mockingbird". I felt a particularly strong tie to the protagonist, Scout, and thought the name captured the essence of my sound appropriately well. With that, I began writing demos, performing local shows, and pursuing music with a fervor like never before. Come join me.
