Sky Held Sun

Sky Held Sun

Rootsy Americana at it's finest, steeped in the tradition of Neil Young with the songwriting abilities of the Beatles & improvisation of the Grateful Dead. We don't claim to be any of these bands, but let their spirit ring through resulting in a cocktail more potent than a nice whiskey on a hot day

Inspired by John Lennon, John Bennett has been writing songs since a kid, while dreaming of being a Beatle. He spent many years traveling and surfing remote areas of the world, which led him to live in Hawaii, Australia & New Zealand for a spell. Honest, sincere while sometimes haunting vocals and distinctive song arrangements are the hallmark of John’s writing, which tend to be heart on sleeve with songs you just can’t get out of your head. After returning to his home of San Diego, John met kindred spirit Jim Volkert & instantly Jim's Harrison-esque guitar melodies provided a consonant counterpoint to John's dark & literate lyrics. Countless gigs as a duo later around Encinitas & beyond, a solo LP in the works by Bennett with Jim handling guitar duties (due out early '08), John & Jim met local pro drummer Joe Hager & found the backbone to their singing & strumming. Three months later, a chance encounter resulted in the addition of Mike Clairmont, & his bass to the equation. Since that point, the four have been in-demand in & around San Diego, stage-testing new material at Le Papagayo (what Nectar's was to Phish), thus preparing for the constant local gigging & also tightening up the hinges for their highly anticipated debut EP due out next month (working title of the Fire Sessions as Exum Studios had to be evacuated mid-session due to the recent fires in San Diego - luckily the studio was unscathed). With tours up the West Coast this winter & down to Cabo & over to Hawaii next summer being planned & demanded by fans in all of those places, the future is bright for these four shining stars, you could say as brightly & surely as the sky holds the sun....

debut EP due out January '08, to be followed shortly after by John Bennett's solo album, "Precious Time"
