Bio
Skylar Kaylyn is 18 years old and was born in Mission Viejo, CA, spending most of her life growing up in a small town in Wyoming. With a family of 5 and an extended family of over 40 members, she enjoys their love and support and the crazy chaos of family get-togethers. She loves dancing – especially hip hop, but can do a mean square dance, too – ice skating, writing music, playing her guitar and piano, road trips and pretty much doing anything with friends or family.
As for her singing career, she has loved music and has been writing songs since before she could walk or talk, and says, “It’s all I remember.” She has acted, sung, and danced in her community her entire life, singing and acting in her church from a very young age, and also helps to lead worship during church and youth group meetings. In 2011, she started writing songs in order to record them, and says, “I think that I have written about a variety of feelings and issues that people of all ages will be able to identify with.” She released her debut independent album titled, “La La La” and her debut music video to her song, “Happy Ever After” in October 2012, and has since begun a traveling ministry of sharing her music at churches, events and community outreach.
Skylar Kaylyn has opened for bands such as Hyland, Citizen Way, and Unspoken, developing friendships and soaking up generous encouragement and advice. Touring with Bread of Stone, Gospel Lee and Montana band, Kid Named King in the summer of 2013, she was profoundly impacted by their hard work ethic and talents, their love for the Lord and others, and their desire and efforts to serve anyone with whom they come in contact. In the fall of 2014 she debuted at festivals across the United States, including the Ignite Festival in Meadville, PA and the Nehemiah Fest in Smithville, MO. She hopes to continue to expand her listening audience and musicianship by serving churches and ministries, by sharing her music and worship at events around the country, and by co-writing with new artist friends.
In December of 2014, with the release of her newest album, In My Head, Skylar Kaylyn weaves her musical thoughts with the talent of Nashville producers and musicians to create a refreshing and deeply inspirational compilation. The completion of this album reflects two years of spiritual and musical growth for Skylar Kaylyn, as well as her deep love for the Lord. In the songs of “In My Head,” Skylar Kaylyn has written about a variety of life situations that reflect her relationships with God, family, and friends, and that she hopes speaks to a wide-range of people. In thoughts that transcend the many stages of life, “You Belong” speaks to the age-old battle of feeling hopeless and worthless, and reminds us of where we fit in…right where we belong. The title track, “In My Head,” features the musical musings of a teenage girl holding out for the love of her life she knows the Lord has waiting for her. She continues to show her romantic and fun-loving spirit in “Once Upon A Time” and “Happy Mother’s Day,” while baring her soul in “This Too Shall Pass,” “Build a Wall” and “I’m Alright.” Her strong and steadfast faith that keeps her anchored in life’s ups and downs is clearly revealed in “All That Really Matters,” “Faith on Snowy Days” and “Sanctuary.” And, as a tribute to dear missionary friends who lost a loved one recently, “Tears in a Bottle” is an achingly honest cry to the Lord reminiscent of King David’s prayers in the book of Psalms.
Skylar Kaylyn wants people to know that Jesus Christ is her all-in-all, and prays that through her music people will come to know Him and lean into Him through the joys and sorrows and all the many happenings of our journey on this earth. She hopes to be singing in a city near you very soon, and invites you to get to know her on her social media sites.
Skylar Kaylyn’s shares her mission statement with us:
I want to live in light of eternity, in my music ministry and in my personal life, and to share with others the power of faith in our everyday life. I want to relate to people through my lyrics and music, to connect with people to inspire them to turn to our Father God for salvation, and then to depend upon Him daily in that relationship. I am passionate about purity and youth doing hard things for the Lord according to 1 Timothy 4:12…I hope that those passions impact those around me in a positive way. I want everyone to know that Jesus Christ is my Hope, my first Love, my Security, my Life and my Eternity…may I use my life to serve Him to the best of my ability.Band Members
