Biography

Czech-born multi-instrumentalist Jaroslav Jakubovic came to the United States in the early 70's along with childhood friends Jan Hammer and Miroslav Vitous. After completing studies at Berklee he spent the next decade performing and recording with some of the most important names in the jazz and pop world including: Tony Bennet, Etta James, Lionel Hampton, Bill Watrous, Paul Simon and Bette Midler. At that time Jaroslav was signed to Columbia records in NYC as a solo recording artist. He immigrated to Israel in 1980 and over the next 20 years became the preeminent producer-arranger there, working with Shalom Chanoch, Arik Einstein, Chava Alberstein and even the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2005 Jaroslav Jakubovic founded Skylight, a 6 musicians New York based ensemble that plays a highly original blend of ethnic music, jazz and folk with overtones of R&B. The music is vocal and instrumental, includes original compositions and arrangements derived from diverse sources such as Czechoslovakia, Turkey and Israel.
