"Nuemo's April 14th Show Review"

In 2006 I went to Nuemo’s for the first time to see one of my all time favorites in Tech N9ne. 6 years later I returned for another night of hip hop, This time with local artists. There may have only been 200-250 people in there April 14th, but you couldn’t tell that to any one of the artists that performed. The sets and delivery were flawless on all 4 performers, and each one of them played as if in a sold out arena for thousands. The first to hit the stage was the group of New Age Politics. This was the only group that I knew nothing about going into the show. N.A.P. is a group of young rappers from Auburn with loads of potential. The biggest thing I took away from their set was their stage presence. These guys knew how to be on stage and knew how to play into the crowd, and get everyone behind them. I look forward to seeing and hearing more from these guys in the future.

Next to hit the stage was Sky Pilot. I may be a bit bias cause they’ve been on my show twice now, but I don’t just let anyone on my show. I don’t support or want to be associated with bad music. So when I tell you these guys put on an amazing set, trust me when I say it. They had 30 minutes, but when they got to their last song, I felt like they had just hit the stage and didn’t want them to leave. This was their first full show together. The looks on Brian’s and Kyle’s faces as they hit the stage showed signs of butterflies and anxiety. Any insecurities were replaced with sheer confidence In their craft with the first beat of the drum. Preston hit the stage and instantly had the crowded entranced. Looking around at the faces on the people watching in the crowd, you could tell, rather you were here for Sky Pilot, or the D’angelos, you were here for Sky Pilot right now, and you weren’t going anywhere. After two songs of heavy, hard hitting rock/rap, it was time to slow things down for an acoustic song. Which came at the perfect time, because I think Preston needed a minute to catch his breath after flying around stage. When the set ended with “Every wall” these guys left everything on the stage. As a fan of music, if these guys stick to it at the rate they are now, I will be shocked if they don’t have a deal with in the next 2-3 years.

After Sky Pilot left, there was a bit of a break in between sets, and during the break a dance battle broke out. A battle, due to my lack of rhythm or any resemblance of dance skills, stayed away from me, but was very entertained watching a guy that looked like Justin Beiber beat the rappers in a dance battle.

Next on stage was Tony D’angelo. This guy has a sound that is already radio ready, and very reminiscent of Kevin Rudolf. Everyone on stage for his set played a role in the party that was on stage, including the guitar player who couldn’t have been any less than 6’4 250lbs. Tony, with his green varsity jacket and Mohawk he already has the look of a star. At one point while standing in the crowd I heard someone yell “I want to have your babies Tony!” Granted, it was a relative, but the message was clear, this kid was capturing everyone in the house.

To end the night was Tony’s little brother Pat D’angelo. That same 17 year old kid that was just sliding on his head across the floor leaving everyone wide eyed was now on stage, and you couldn’t tell any one of those teenage girls that were leaning on the stage that this wasn’t Justin Beiber. At one point during the set my friend said to me, “I really feel like I’m at a Beiber concert right now.” Which made my inappropriate comment very fitting at the moment. When I say this kid has the sound and feel of Justin, believe that I say it in the utmost respect. He’s got the talent to go as far as his ambition will take him. And with a 12 year old drummer who already has the girls all over him, his future his just as bright.
Pat, Tony, Sky Pilot, N.A.P thank you for night of great music, and I hope all of you make it in this industry. - BS with Andy and Guests

Bio

Sky Pilot is what every fan of "local" music has been craving. This is that group that combines the sounds of a band you think you've already heard on the radio, with lyrics and styles that you know you've never heard before. Sky Pilot is that band that after hearing hoards of local rappers, and rock acts that do the same thing over and over again, restore your faith in up and coming music. From the inside out this band is different than what you think you know about the "local" scene. Brian Rowland’s master craftsmanship behind the boards at Cold Clock Productions has given him the skills and knowledge he needs to be the drummer and guitar player. Kyle Layng's artistic abilities and sheer uniqueness give him what he needs to be the DJ and background vocals. And Preston...Preston is on a planet all his own, and we're just visiting. From his humble beginnings in choir to his other attempts at bands, he carries everything with him. It's hard to tell if he carries it with him in his heart or on his shoulders sometimes. When you see him on stage it’s like he has something to prove to everyone watching, and by the end of the night...he does. All three of these guys have done their own things in the past, but nothing has ever clicked like it does when they are together. I don't want to go as cliché to say it's like peanut butter and jelly, but damn it fits. Rather it's a full on set, dj, drums, guitars, Preston jumping around; acoustic set, or just Preston to the background beats: Sky Pilot does not disappoint live. At the age of 23 Preston is the youngest of the trio but his energy on stage carries him well as the front man. Brian is the quiet leader though, and with every show you can see in his eyes before the set that he knows "this is my baby." Kyle feels it too as he mans his station, but his choir background and the fact the he cofounded Cold Clock Productions with Brian takes over. At the first beat of the drum all the butterflies disappear as these 3 kings of their own craft do what they do best. If Sky Pilot comes in to your town do yourself a favor and go see them.
