Bio

Slave Bird Saloon came together in October of 2009. Andrés and Greg have been jamming and writing together, off and on, for about two years. Shortly after leaving music school in Los Angeles, Andrés put an ad out on laweekly.com looking for people to jam with and stumbled across Greg, who had just moved to California from Vancouver, Canada. They both hit it off right away and would get together to play songs by the Beatles, Ray charles, The Doors, Radiohead... etc etc. Months Later, Andrés was hired to be the guitar player for a band that was going on a full US tour. He jumped at the opportunity but kept in touch with Greg. When the tour was over, he realized, though he was being paid to play music for the first time, musically, it wasn't what he wanted to do. So he left the band and went back to playing with Greg. They picked up where they left off and started writing some material. The two moved to Murrieta, Andrés' home town, to mellow out and focus on their new project. For the next year they jammed with countless musicians, trying to find a kindred spirit but to no avail. Nevertheless, they continued writing but decided it would be best to move back to LA to find the rest of the band.
In LA, they kept finding more and more musicians, but still no one that really fit. Then on his way to a jam with Andrés, Greg was t-boned by a driver who ran a red light. He thankfully wasn't fatally injured but the pain in his arms made it impossible to play bass for the next six months. Andrés kept writing and recording at home, when one day he ran into a bass player who introduced him to Lisa Donnelly, a singer/songwriter from Lawrence, Kansas. She was in dire need of a guitar player and it all worked out perfectly. For the next 9 months, Andrés played in Lisa's band and toured around the US once again. While on the road, Andrés was working on some songs for a solo album, and he recorded a few demos in his room upon returning. He'd always kept in contact with Greg and showed him a few tracks. Greg loved it and once again, they making music together, but they needed a drummer. And they didn't just want some guy to beat away on the skins. They wanted someone who understood what making music was about.
A couple weeks later Andrés agreed to play a little show with Lisa at Bar Lubitsch in Hollywood. After the performance Andrés was introduced to Joe, by one of Lisa's friends. They talked about music and their influences and they immediately hit it off. They soon started jamming together and it just felt right. Joe, being not just a drummer, but a guitar player, singer and songwriter was a perfect match.
Since that chance meeting they have played a couple shows to get their feet wet and have received a very warm welcome. They are currently working on some more material and looking to hit the ground running in 2010.
