Bio

Sleepcycle was started in late 2010 by Collin Masteller and Matt Hannas with little more than 10 songs. Practice was key in the begining, it wasnt until they had every song down perfectly that they would even think of performing. In March they signed up for theyre first show,it was an event at Pacific Grove High School called "Student Voices". The event allowed them to play in front of the entire school to show what they had, Matt and Collin couldnt wait. The song they played was called "Past the End" which is still one of the heaviest songs in the setlist to date. The school loved it, it was a welcome addition since they were the only real alternative rock band there. They rode the momentum from that first show as much as they could. A week later they finished up our first demo. It sounded like shit, but to them at the time it was gold. In the coming weeks they incorporated Collins long time friend and bassist Frank Lucido. They had tried out many other bassists and guitarists, but it would always ruin the flow of what they had and it never ended up working well. With Frank it was different, they just sounded better with him. After a few weeks practicing with Frank they decided to try and do a few more small shows to get things rolling again. They played wherever we could, city events, festivals, open mics, and even resturants. The small gigs were great for experience, but they were ready for the next step, paid gigs. They set up a show at the Alternative Cafe. The show was originally planned for october and required 2 hours of music, the one problem? They only had at MOST an hour and a half of material and it was already September. All 3 of them were stressing out, but somehow they managed to write tons of new material. It was a relief when the show was pushed back to November, but now they knew they had enough music. For this show they were very serious. Their friend, Jeremy Villucci learned a few of our songs and threw in some keyboard. Meanwhile they were passing out around 1,000 fliers. When the show finally came around they had a great turnout of more then 50 people. Up till then it was their highest energy performance, they even had a few moshes going on for the heavier songs. They also sold around 50 cd's which featured some brand new recordings with Frank. After that they decided to practice and go back into the writing phase. After a few months of vigorous practice they had grown tighter as a band. They could practically read eachothers minds on stage. They tested out some of their new material at open mics, and then decided to put on another big show. Alternative cafe was in Seaside, so it wasnt within walking distance of Pacific Grove. We wanted to do a show that locally so they set up a gig with Pacific Grove high again, since they had a brand new stage they could use. They turned it into a benefit concert and signed up a few other bands to play with us to get the biggest audience we possibly could. around 150 people showed up, which was awsome because we supplied everything but the stage for this show. All the musical equipment, work, and lighting was done by them. They raised over $2,000 for the art teachers son who had a brain tumor. They are now finishing up our most polished and professional CD yet.
