Gutter Music E.P, to be released in November 2007 on Vanguard Squad.

Feeling a bit camera shy

Sleeper Waves formed in 1999 for the sole purpose of recording a song to be included on the San Francisco based documentary soundtrack Sleeping Off Stolen Dreams, released by Little Echoes in 2000. The reasons behind this are vague, and probably not important, but the band members were just crossing paths at that time and agreed to continue playing and recording, should the chaos find them together again.
The first Sleeper Waves track, Aquaphilia, was eventually included on the release. It is worth mentioning that the track went completely unnoticed. Oddly enough, this may have been the intended effect. Those present at the time have said that the only requirement for the song was that it be exactly 4 minutes, 20 seconds long. Aside from that one constraint, there was no other aim or motivation behind it.
All reviews of the compilation focused on the tracks by the other, well known bands; none of them mentioned Aquaphilia. In some cases, even close friends of the band did not know who recorded the track, why they recorded it, or how it got on the compilation.
As the fates would have it, their paths did cross again, plans were made, and songs were resurrected. More people were involved, and soon, the band was arranging, rehearsing, and recording again. True to form, the journey was, once again, the destination: There were no plans to release, distribute, or promote the final product of the bands labors, except to those who might express an interest. In other words, no one.
If youve read this far, it is worth noting that the writing and arranging is a product of the common interests of all the band members, and since they have very little in common, there is a very small amount of material. The result of this is a five song EP, Gutter Music, set for release on Vanguard Squad, to be followed, most likely, by nothing at all, or another short release.
The name Sleeper Waves was derived from the actual maritime phenomenon of the same name. It is, as the name suggests, a sudden, rushing wall of water that carries the unsuspecting victim out to sea, and drowns him. Whether the bands music bears any resemblance to this violent act of nature is still unknown.
