Bio

"Sometimes it takes the 8th band in 2 years to really figure out how the whole band thing works." Anonymous, though possibly Sananda Maitreya (formerly Terence Trent D'Arby).

Terence’s alleged words of wisdom are a source of inspiration for Sleep Holiday – a nowhere near hardcore/but enjoy punk all the same four piece from Vancouver, British Columbia. Instead, Sleep Holiday combine elements of psychedelic pop, post rock, shoegaze, and Brit pop, and have the overall goal of writing good songs and making great music.

Bassist and vocalist Robbie Nall was introduced to Ryan Nicol (drums) in late 2004 by a mutual friend (only David Prowse of Japandroids!!). They hit it off musically and together with good pal Brian King (also in Japandroids!!) they formed Trembling – a largely unknown atmospheric juggernaut. After releasing Pulses in the Dark (2006) the band faded out and called it quits in the spring of 2007. While Brian was busy conquering the world with Japandroids, Ryan and Robbie continued playing together, and enlisted the services of friend Mikey Woz (founder of the excellent post rock band The Barcelona Chair) on synthesizer. After trying to incorporate a string section, and a brass band, the ‘always changing names’ three piece brought in guitarist Jon Scott (former member of DDT). The band now had its fourth rock, all that was needed was a name …

After toying with names such as Elders, Bill Murray, Turn! Cruyff, Turn! Yazoo St Scandal, and Men Singing, Sleep Holiday emerged as the winner. The name is a reference/ tribute to the Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci album Sleep/Holiday, and the criminally under rated Welsh band are an influence. As too are countrymen the Super Furry Animals. However, the Welsh psychedelic scene is as much an influence as the music of Kate Bush, Dusty Springfield, Love, the Kinks, and so many other great bands from the past and present.

In June 2010, Sleep Holiday will self release there debut e/p Cattenachio. Recorded by local maestro Jay Arner of International Falls, and Fine Mist, the e/p is a fun filled trip that the band is really quite proud of.
