Sleep Room are a 5 piece English alternative indie rock band from in and around the Reading, Berkshire area.
Named after the conspiratorial brainwashing technique allegedly used by the CIA in the 50's, the band have drawn influence from many artists including; Joy Division, Sigur Rós, Elbow and Pink Floyd, to create their own unique, emotive and powerful sound.
The seeds of the band were formed in the mid noughties when Cook (Vocals, Guitar) and Weston (Guitar) met during auditions for another band (it later transpired that the pair’s paths had bizarrely and fatedly crossed on several occasions prior to this meeting). The pair went on to meet King (Drums) and Sleep Room was born.
Over the next few years the band evolved and honed their trademark sound through several recording projects and continued live performances, receiving critical acclaim and local and national airplay from the likes of BBC Berkshire and BBC 6 Music.
Although numerous other band members came and went it was the arrival of Bowen (Bass guitar) in 2009 that marked the turning point for the band. Bolstered by the energy created by the new arrival the band went on to record their fourth studio EP in 2010, marking the maturation of the Sleep Room sound.
2011 saw further progress for Sleep Room; the band signed to Superstore Music, began work on their first full length studio album (Gone), and recruited their fifth and final member in the form of Amphlett (Keyboards, Guitars).
Scheduled for release in early March 2012 the latest album ‘Gone’ is the result of Sleep Room spending many months in the studio, engineering their ideas into technical and moving pieces of music. A great deal of thought, sweat and tears has culminated in a flowing, cohesive, unique and intelligent piece of work they are very proud of and hope you will enjoy.
