"Sleep Study, ‘Flower Girl’"

At first, it’s a bit confusing to determine exactly what era Sleep Study is from. They rock like the late ’60s, look like they were born in the early ’80s and rock sunglasses that scream ’99. But truth be told, the critic-pleasing quartet formed just last year in Minneapolis, where the members have been rocking alongside veterans like the Honeydogs, Kid Dakota and Jeremy Messersmith for years. -

"“New Videos from Polica, Sleep Study, and more…”"

“Sleep Study is the new vehicle for gifted local songwriter and storyteller Ryan Paul (formery Ryan Paul and the Ardent), and if ’60s throwback pop song “Flower Girl” is any indication they’ll be a band to watch in 2012.” - NPR - 89.3 The Current

""Sleep Study""

“…a classic and sophisticated Brit-rock sheen, from the T. Rex-y glam-pop of the opener ‘Flower Girl’ to several songs that recall Robyn Hitchcock to, yes, ample ‘Revolver’-style Beatles majesty. But no Radiohead, refreshingly. Expect to see this one on many local critics year-end lists” - Star Tribune

""Local Frames: New videos from Polica, Paper Tiger, Sleep Study and more”"

“The group seems poised for success with this highly anticipated release, and if the haunting title-track is any indication, Sleep Study should certainly deliver on the promise suggested by their riveting live shows.” - Gimme Noise

""Sleep Study Debuts with Bold Pop-Rock""

“With Eischen and new bandmates Justin Hartke on bass and Alexander Young playing drums, Plewacki’s once subtly catchy tunes have grown both more instantly accessible and richly layered. Plewacki still possesses a reedy-but-right tenor evocative of Tom Petty, and Sleep Study’s debut album, Nothing Can Destroy, dresses up its sturdy mid-tempo tunes with slick production flourishes and exotic keyboard overdubs aplenty.” - City Pages

""Sleep Study Performs in the Current Studios""

“They fill a niche that the community hasn’t embraced as fully compared to other music genres, and perhaps that’s why the interest in Sleep Study’s future is so promising.” - NPR - 89.3 The Current

""SXSW 2012 Records""

RE: Sleep Study’s contribution to MN Remembers Vic Chesnutt
“Some might recognize names like Charlie Parr, Ben Weaver, and Haley Bonar, who make noteworthy appearances, but it’s relative unknown Janey Winterbauer & Ryan Paul (of Sleep Study) whose “Flirted With You All My Life” closes the disc with a moan filled by Chesnutt’s troubled memory stealing the show.” - Austin Chronicle

"“Tennis and Sleep Study at the Triple Rock“"

“Opener Sleep Study seemed similarly reserved, but they hid it well in Ryan Paul Plewacki’s tender singing and repeated solos amid the retro-filled rock melodies. The extended guitar breaks sometimes cut like stiff prairie winds, and sometimes felt like they climbed over mountains.” - City Pages

"“Minnesota Power at SXSW”"

“…the Sleep Study frontman went over his performance schedule — maybe the busiest of any Minnesotan“ - Star Tribune

Still working on that hot first release.

"'70s British rock meets 80s power pop in this Minneapolis quartet. The infectious track 'Flower Girl' off the bands debut album was recently nominated for an Independent Music Award (Best Indie/Alt Rock Song)" - Paste Magazine

Assembled in 2011, Minneapolis rock quartet Sleep Study has lived up to high expectations set by their dedicated followers and the media. Coupled with strong chemistry within the band and an updated 70s aesthetic as heard on their first single Flower Girl, the group has been making waves since their formation last summer. (NPR 89.3 The Current). The band has tackled the near impossible task of being relevant while nodding to heroes of rocks past.

After being discovered by Michael Simon, President of The Harry Fox Agency, Sleep Studys debut album Nothing Can Destroy was officially released August 2012 on Simon Recordings and immediately noted by Star Tribune writer Chris Riemenschneider as an album expected to be on many local critics year-end lists.

The bands formula is a natural cooperative of strengths from all members, combining Ryan Paul Plewackis (vocals/guitar) brand of Brit flavored rock with Justin Hartkes (vocals/bass) jazz upbringing and Cory Eischens (keys) extensive pop background. The calculated drumming of Levi Stugelmeyer solidifies their retro sound. Each individual has a rich history in the Minneapolis and national music world. Collectively, the members of Sleep Study have shared stages and played on recordings with Al Kooper, Kid Dakota, Jeremy Messersmith, Owl Citys Breanne Dren, Mayda, Bella Ruse, The Honeydogs, Minor Kingdom, Rogue Valley, and more.

In their brief existence, the young band has performed at premier venues and events throughout the Twin Cities, contributed to compilation albums with Minneapolis finest and established musicians, had significant social media and Youtube presence, and is now preparing for a US tour to support their acclaimed debut record. Sleep Studys unapologetic dedication to their modern take on a 70s pop sound has them earning continued press from news outlets in their home state as well Flower Girl being nominated for an Independent Music Award.
