"East Kilbride band head to Switzerland for their first international gig"

Just one year after forming, blues-rock trio Sleepyheads are flying to Switzerland to play their first international gig in Montreux.
The three East Kilbride boys – Lewis McFadden, Michael Davitt and Lewis Tollan – were invited to play at the prestigious Ned Music Club after attracting worldwide attention through their MySpace, Facebook and their official website.
The band’s manager, Nabrissa Zwyssig, said: “Montreux is a very musical place. The Montreux Jazz Festival is world-renowned, and many artists have lived here or been inspired by the city. I think it’s the perfect place for Sleepyheads to show what they’ve got!”
Eager to promote the gig, Sleepyheads will also be interviewed by radio station StopFM during their weekend stay in Switzerland.
Michael said: “We’re really excited to get our music heard outside of Scotland and where better to start than one of the most musical cities in the world?”
Such an impressive opportunity might seem overwhelming for a young band, but the teenage trio has taken it in their stride.
With their eponymous debut EP recorded before they’d played a single gig, it was clear from the start that they had no intentions of taking things slowly.
The trip’s visit coincides with the release of their ambitious first album, Melancholy Café, which goes on sale during the gig on Saturday (September 10).
It also celebrates the end of the Sleepyheads’ extraordinary first year as a band, which saw them signed by independent label Zine Records.
Nabrissa said: “Things are definitely evolving. It’s incredible that they’re only 16 and 17 – considering their music has such a catchy, mature sound.”
The world seems to agree, as they have attracted interest from the media in places as far-flung as America, Columbia and Spain. Due to international demand for live shows, a European tour is also planned for summer 2012. - STV East Kilbride
