To write music that is catchy is one achievement, and to write music that is impressive is another. SleepyV's thesis is that the two are not mutually exclusive, and that music can reach beyond the boundaries of pop, folk, and rock without being pretentious. Instead of nailing catchy choruses into a listener's head and filling in the empty space with contrived verses and bridges, SleepyV's through-composed music strings together catchy chorus after catchy chorus without repetition. Lyrical, melodic and rhythmic motifs act as the glue that binds each segment together, and the result is music that is constantly changing but never falls too far off the deep end. Think the second half of Abbey Road if the Beatles were a twee-pop band that grew up listening to jazz and classical before passing through a pop-punk phase in junior high.
