"Slick Shoota "F Dat""

At first glance, a song featuring two artists named Slick Shoota and Purple sounds like nothing so much as Bay Area cloud-rap, which, if it’s as derivative as those names are, doesn’t seem all that promising. But it’s misdirection: Slick Shoota is actually a Norweigian producer who's made a name for himself by recreating the styles of high-bpm Chicago bass. His 2012 EP Percussion Skank was a sudden eruption of slapdash juke, of the type that you’d figure it might be hard to come by in Oslo.
Now he’s back with the single "F Dat", a melodious, hard-hitting juke anthem featuring fellow Norwegian and beat-hop aficionado Purple on the vocals. "F Dat" drags juke into a pop sphere, with fully fleshed out vocals riding over wavy neon beats. The song’s energy is remarkable—except for a bridge around the two-minute mark, it coasts on an unending wave of candied noise. And even when the vocals get chopped, the melody never fully fades. - Pitchfork

"Watch Slick Shoota and Purple Juke Their Way Through Netscape Nightmare in ‘F Dat’ Video"

Chicago’s juke music may be inextricably associated with the local footwork scene, but the jittery style’s reach continues to expand ever outward, and Slick Shoota is a perfect testament to that fact. The Norwegian producer makes music that falls clearly into that framework even as he adds his own touches. To wit, his single “F Dat” showcases a unique ear for melodic context, and the uncut vocals of guest singer Purple, who laments the premature end of a relationship. “Thought we had the magic,” she coos, while the corresponding Ossian Melin-directed video is full of strange voodoo — a combination of tradigital art, 3-D GIFs, vintage video-game snippets, and other Internet wildness. When we do see Purple, she’s almost always within a screen within our screen. “F Dat” comes courtesy of Mad Decent’s left-leaning imprint, Jeffrees. - Spin Magazine

"Slick Shoota's 48 Hour Mixtape"

In the third episode of a series brought to you by Noisey and Pepsi Max, we're in Oslo with Slick Shoota, a producer and local hero known for making high-energy, genre-defying club tracks.

He is attempting to make a mixtape of original music in just 48 hours. First up, Drippin heads to Slick Shoota's studio, fresh off the stage from Oya Festival and over the next two days, our man collaborates with the likes of Purpurr Purple, Samsaya and Boska to try to capture the sound of Oslo. The mixtape then debuts to a music hungry crowd at an Oya Festival after party. - Noisey
