"Record Pool Ezine publication"

I want to take a minute of your time to turn you on to a new friend of mine. His name is Slim Yellow. His music is so hot when we dropped it in the pool it sizzled and made the water boil over.

His tracks have been in my cd player for my daily commute every day since I got them. (I listen to hip hop in the morning, to get the attitude going, and dance on the way home to stay energized).

So your thinking- Hmm!? curious name - Slim Yelow right? Well his beats are fat, and he ain't scared of any crowd or dancefloor, because he knows he has the funk the people are craving.

Slim took some time out from his Music production schedule, and label management role to clue me in on the origin of his funky name and beats.

RP: "So what's the Inspiration for the name?"

SY: " It's a play off DJ's calling themselves fat, or slim, it's hooky like slim shady and my productions- and I am half asian so it just stuck among my friends but you can call me SY- pool guy (hee hee). "

RP: "In addition to being really good stand alone tracks, I notice your tracks have a lot of progression in them, and very cool vocal elements, which I really like for scratchin and beat mixing. Have you ever been compared to Fat Boy Slim or the Propellor Heads?

SY: "No not really"

RP: "Well ya are now."

RP: "Who or what are some of your other inspirations"

SY: "As a kid growing up listening to Yellow Magic Orchestra and Alan Parsons Project, then I went on to college and studied film music, traditional production and jazz composition, but got hooked on electronic music because I could create a deep track with many elements, with my synths and sequencers. These days I am into Harry Choo Choo Romero, Tony Thomas, Dj Mouse and the Plump DJ's as well to name a few ".

RP: "So in addition to producing very cool forward thinking music you also own Yelow Tek Records correct?"

SY: "Yeah yelowtekrecords.com is the parent company/ label for my producer friends and my sublabels. Tribal Funk Records, Funky Vitamin E. and Royale with Cheeze".

RP: "Your releases are charting well in traditional pools, and selling like hot dogs at a ball park on digital download sights, what's next?"

SY: "Well I am going to Miami WMC, to meet more people and expand my net work. After that I will be Pushing my CD singles from my roster locally where they are in demand and globally as the buzz is growing. "

Slim, sorry bro- SY is a super cool guy, and a hot producer, who is not afraid to make fun music!

"Bad Trip featured track"

OK, at first I thought Slim Yelow was pretty cool, but now I want to kick his butt. Not only has he got me addicted to his tracks-(stuff sticks to your head like gum), but I am really mad at him for stealing all of my cool production ideas. The worst part is his music bangs so hard, I think I am going deaf. His track Downswing Boogie 2 and now Bad Trip (on the Royale with Cheeze label) are driving me crazy. Every time i try to pop them out of my cd player, i feel a force smack my hand away. Is it the Ghost of Funk exercising his dominion over me, or am I subconsciously becoming a Slim Yelow Junkie?

The DJ World may never know, but that's not their problem. In fact they don't have any problems, The Record Pool couldn't have made it any easier for a Dj or Label A&R scout to log in to our real time chart service (industry first and exclusive) and see for themselves. While your at it, why don't you sign up to the pool and download this wicked tune and submit a DJ mix? Who knows you could be our next featured chart reporter DJ. Slim Yelow: the DJ, the Studio Wizard, the Label Owner, the Earl Grey Tea Drinker...

Slims Studio Set up:

Custom Built PC running Cubase, for Sequencing, and two 19 inch Flat Panel LCD monitors, to spread my pallette out and see all the digital details. Hardware is made up of many goodies old and new but mainly a Virus C Synth, Supernova, Korg MS 2000, Mackie HR 824s "the stuffs gotta bang you know"! The mixing board is an oldie but a goodie- a Biamp 32 28, very classic warm sound. All the outboard gear finds its way home through this board. I use an electrix filter factory cuz im a hands on tweaker guy, my new favorite score is the Quadfromage - French for cheese and you can't beat the price...

That's the gear, and for chilling and getting in the mood to write it's my beautiful studio view of Lake Balboa Blvd. How about drinks? Red Bull, Covoiser and Pineapple? Well I am a tea drinker, and I am often steeping Earl Grey with a touch of milk and sugar... while my beats are coming together.

This weeks featured track from Slim Yelow (I can call him Sy if I want!) is Bad Trip.click here.

This track is a lot of fun and like many old Ravers turned IT nerds, will definitely give the brain a nice jog down memory lane...

Any last thoughts: "I am looking to collaborate with vocalists of the female variety, that move your soul with cool lyrics in the veins of rock, r&b, and hip hop"... I reccommended Karaoke Bars, Courtney Jordan of Moreceaux Musique and www.vocalsonly.com

That's it for now Record Pool DJ's and E zine subscribers, have fun in Miami- WMC 2005! and Rate Tracks - The Pool Guy.

Bio

Positive Influences: Ritchie Hawtin, Eric Morillo, Infusion, Phil Glass, John Williams.
I strive to bring new, fresh and foward looking material to DJs and Dance Culture fans. My use of NI traktor and various EFX enables me to be more creative in DJ sets than vinyl djs. I love to make people dance, jump and go crazy on the dance floor. Past experience shows that this is where my talent excels.
I was the winner of the DJ showcase presented by remix Mag. in Hollywood CA in Sept of 2003.
