"SLM, Pass It To The Left"

The groove on this record will hit you like a 20 pound sledgehammer. Pronounced “Slim”, the multi-faceted Wisconsin combo melds ethereal saxophone, dual guitars and the “Borg” like collective unit of Steve Kenziora's bass flowing around Ted Noble's polyrhythmic drums. Don Woppert and Mike Hannon's lead vocals are delivered at breakneck-speed, much of the time followed by a guitar solo or a gratuitous sax line by the man only known as “T”. Delving into both Reggae, and traditional Latin Rock & Roll, SLM envelopes the listener in a blanket of groove. “Transparent Tim,” engages the listener with his technical prowess, and never loses momentum. “Black Olive Jam” stands out as an energetic indulgence that presents the talents of the individual members while imparting unparalleled up-tempo cohesion. “Pass It To The Left” was recorded at Cascio Interstate Music Studios in New Berlin, WI, and mastered at Mastermind Studios in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "SLM, Milwaukee's original band"

Although recognized as a jam band, SLM is hard to fit into any one catergory. Guitar work that bounces between blues and outright metal sets the tone for an eclectic performance. Hints of soul and strong reggae influences also occur. The band’s mission statement is to create a party atmosphere using many styles of music, and that’s just what they’ll do Saturday March 11 at the Blue Cave in Waukesha. - Brian Barney

"The Sound of Free Will"

Sick and tired of being forever bound by the usual humdrum played on the radio? Fed up with the overwhelming amount of songs that are perpetually caught between love and heartache? Instead of being forced to listen to these extremes eternally broadcasted, why not try enhancing your entire mood, maybe your entire life.

SLM (whose signature icon is two mushrooms getting X-rated) is a not a band that fits into any particular music genre, but more of a melding of different styles borrowed from various genres, from reggae, to jazz, to rock, which is, in part, why it is becoming such an appreciated musical art form hitting the scene. Some of the band’s influences, perhaps to give you a greater understanding of their type of music, include Phish, Jimi Hendrix, 311, String Cheese Incident, The Allman Brothers, and The Grateful Dead to name a few. This all-genre encompassing jam band includes Don whaling on lead vocals and guitar, Matt rocking out on the flute and saxophone, Dennis contributing his mad skills on vocals and guitar, and Ted raging like a wild man on the drums. Self-titled “Wisconsin’s Dankest Band” combines the unique sounds of these four guys, undoubtedly fated for untamed success.

What’s best is that this incredibly distinct sound is coming to you! SLM will perform on April 21, 2007 at Spitfire’s located on Janesville Road in Muskego, WI (only about 20 minutes from downtown Milwaukee!). The show will start at 10PM and will proceed to rock out until all of your heart’s content. This won’t be another band that has the same sound over and over. It won’t be just another song floating in one apathetic ear and out another. This is the sound of changing perspectives and enhancing one’s living experience. This is the sound of free will.

Bio

Not just a jam band, not a reggae band, or a jazz ensemble, or a rock band, but all fused together to form the original sound of SLM. Every song has a uniquness to it. You will hear bluesy flowing guitar solos to shredding head banging licks, to slow jazzy sounds or reggae dub from song to song. We were sick of hearing the same songs over and over on the radio. It's to the point where every band sounds the same. With an appreciation for all styles of music, we're trying to create something for everybody. Our main goal, make you dance, party, and enjoy all aspects of life and music!

The band has had over 20 different musicians share the stage and the name of SLM. Through evolution and learning from each other we have come upon a lineup that gels and jams as one unit, creating the greatest sounds and jams the band has ever experienced. A high level of musicianship and the ability to listen to each other are key requirements for the band, and something we pride ourselves on.
