Bio
‘This is more transparent, it’s abstract and crude’ says Collazzo, speaking of his new band Slow Emotion Replay. After four years of experimentation on the Pure Drama multimedia project, Fernando Collazzo (vocals, guitars, keyboards) decided to pull the synth plugs and to bring the acoustic guitars and the tube amps upfront. Still inspired by the British music scene of the late 80’s and 90’s, Slow Emotion Replay also stirs up memories of Bowie, Nick Cave and Radiohead’s approach to rage, sensuality and melancholy. All with a myriad of essence that doesn’t fit one classification.
Over the years, Collazzo’s vocals have gained recognition in the Montreal independent scene. On their last recording, we can clearly identify his unique granular tone, smoothly delivered like a sandglass. The guitars are tarnished, slowly imposing their melodies. The bass is stylish, clever. New comer Tom Lamarche (drums) establishes beats that navigate from trip-hop, to lo-fi, to dirty rock grooves. Grand pianos, Hammond B3s and harmoniums are also essential to S.E.R.; pure and intimate they transcend simplicity.
There is a quest of silence and peace of mind on all the songs, often surrounded by a romantic yet reasoned poetry. ‘Love always brings peculiar behaviours’ says Collazzo, Adding ‘extreme psychotic behaviours’. You can even find idealistic ironies in lyrics like ‘See me as the curriculum of love’.
Slow Emotion Replay live is an impulsive experience. It can build up from an intimate, acoustic, largely atmospheric performance to conclude in a cruel mix of overdriven guitars and harsh choruses.
Always popular with the college crowd (they had four top ten singles on CISM 89.3 FM chart). S.E.R. is currently working on their first official release.
